An experienced academician with a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering, Prof. Roychoudhury has been at IIM Shillong since the institute was founded. Here's why students adore Prof. Roychoudhury.

Prof. Basav Roychoudhury is Associate Professor For Information Systems at IIM Shillong. Armed with a PhD (Computer Science and Engineering) from Tezpur University, Prof. Roychoudhury’s areas of interests include mobile computing – protocols and security, enterprise systems, and eGovernance, and he is passionate about business analytics and data modelling. He also designed and delivered courses on Business Intelligence & Analytics, Business Modeling using Spreadsheets, Data Mining and Data Warehousing, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), IT Tools For Managers, Management Information Systems, Spreadsheet Macros for Modelling, etc.

He has also been involved in consulting in the area of enterprise systems and eGovernance models, and has also been in touch with Department of Electronics and IT (DeitY) and National Institute of Smart Governance (NISG) for man power development. He had been associated with SAP AG in their initiative under CSR to promote eGovernance in the Panchayats. Prof. Roychoudhury was awarded membership (non Rotarian) of the Group Study Exchange (GSE) Program for Young Professionals of Rotary International, 2010.

“He created the real difference in learning for us when it came to our hectic schedule of courses of MBA. He made us realise that it’s more important to learn to master oneself before we master skills of operations and finance or marketing etc. to be a great manager is not to be about skilled in a domain, but to be able to understand oneself and curate yourself to your interests, through which you automatically become the best in that skill you wish to gain.
It was my first time studying in such an environment, where there was self learning more than rote learning, where in my all three semesters here, and my under graduation or my schooling years, I had seen for the very first time where every student of the class looked forward to attend that class, and rarely someone missed those. It truly was an experience more than just a semester credit course for us, where I think all of us grew as individuals and found out how we can align ourselves to the life we want. It really is an experience I wish we could gain more of, and I really hope sir gives us an elective course of his in the second year. Until then I find myself in a better position than I was before that course, something that really felt like “real” learning from an MBA course, and I guess that’s what is one of the reasons of doing an MBA.”
