IIM Shillong - The Campus In Clouds

The beautiful city of Shillong is situated at an altitude of approximately 5000 feet above sea level and is the capital of one of the smallest states in India – ‘Meghalaya’. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of a top-class management institute in the country and that too situated at one of the most scenic places in India? IIM Shillong’s lush green campus with the State of Art facilities was established in 2007 and is situated at the Mayurbhanj Complex in the heart of the city of Shillong in the East Khasi Hills district.

The IIM Shillong campus includes the main building where the administrative office, faculty offices, library and conference halls are present. Apart from the main building, the Institute also has an auditorium, a guesthouse, a number of small, aesthetically designed and tech equipped classrooms and student hostels within the campus. Faculty residences are situated just adjacent to the campus. The campus is connected with State of Art IT infrastructure and communication facilities.

Both single and double occupancy rooms available for the students. The basic amenities such as a bed, mattress, wardrobe, study table and chair are provided in every room. The student hostels are connected with a Wireless Mesh Network (WMN). There is also a common recreation room equipped with table-tennis, carom, and television facilities. A common reading room, an extensive library, a basketball and a volleyball court are within the confinement of the student hostels.

My motivation behind choosing the IIM Shillong Campus:

IIM Shillong is the 7th Indian Institute of Management established by the government of India and is well-known for its Campus in Clouds apart from being consistent in 100% placements batch after batch. Recently the institute also completed 10 years of establishment and it aims to grow further with a higher rate. IIM Shillong takes pride in focusing its management education towards sustainable development which is the need of the hour. Along with producing innovative leaders with strong ethical values, it creates a sense of responsibility towards the entire humanity by adopting and practicing sustainable activities which are economically viable, environment friendly and socially responsible. The institute’s core values especially – ‘Intellectual freedom’ along with ‘Compassion for others’ align with the values that I would want to inculcate throughout my life.

Which Aditya Birla Company I would like to work for?

My aspiration to work for a world class conglomerate can be fulfilled by working with Aditya Birla group and hence I would like to be a part of the ‘Group Data and Analytics’ function of the ABG. Knowing that the corporate cell of the Group Data and Analytics functions as one of the arms of the Aditya Birla Management Corporation Private Limited, which provides strategic direction to Group Companies, I would be extremely thrilled to work as a part of the apex decision making body of the ABG.

Having an experience working with the big data and analytics, it will be a great platform for me to showcase my analytical expertise while gaining business knowledge. I believe that working with such a huge conglomerate will not just expose me to cutting edge tools and technologies but will also help me develop expertise while delivering strategic solutions backed by advanced quantitative techniques along with the use of sophisticated machine learning algorithms.

Even though it is one of the niche functions of ABG, I believe it is the future, if not the present, in data driven decision making for all the Group Companies. I would be eager to solve the real-world problems and would be honoured to be associated with the renowned business group not just in India but in the world.
