IIM Shillong - The Institute Of The North-East

IIM Shillong is not just the 7th IIM in the country, its way more than that. It’s the most significant management college in the entire northeast. The weather and the culture of a place like Shillong make the IIM experience way more productive. Being one of the older IIM’s, the college attracts the best talent from various parts of the country coming from diverse educational, cultural and geographical backgrounds. Shillong is incredible as a place in the fact that everyone and everything in Shillong sleeps at ten only with only IIM Shillong being awake. Shillong is away from the modern world of Ola and Uber as well as Zomato and Swiggy it's just traditional. Also, an underdeveloped northeast gives an ample opportunity for a plethora of entrepreneurship ideas as this is an unexplored market with inherent challenges and opportunities.

Academic rigor is an over-used word when it comes to the IIM culture, but here it is aptly used. We can have classes from 7 in the morning to 12:30 in the night and weekdays and weekends don’t matter. What makes us unique that the sole focus of administration is on academics and it’s only the students that take the initiative to develop ourselves holistically and not just academically.

Our results in various corporate competitions and scholarships have announced IIM Shillong at the national stage. We might be the 7th IIM when it comes to our age, but we aspire to best when it comes to rankings. Whatever challenges we face here and there are quite a few especially logistically given the terrain we solve and figure it out rather than letting the administration take care of it. Our results in inter IIM sports fest have also announced IIM Shillong in the sports circle of IIM’s. We are not just another IIM in the country, we are IIM Shillong, and we are proud of it.

When it comes to Aditya Birla Group, I have a very personal relationship with the Birla family. I did my graduation from BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus which is in Pilani, the ancestral home of the Birla family. I saw almost the entire Birla family when they come for the 50 years celebration of the Birla family. Given an opportunity, I would like to work with any company of the Birla family but if I have to choose one I’ll select IDEA. IDEA because the telecom sector is in a massive crisis with JIO bulldozing its way through which has put other companies into losses and a lot of stress. I am a person who likes challenges and reviving IDEA post the Vodafone merger in a complex telecom industry excites me the most.
