International Management Institute, New Delhi, known as IMI, New Delhi is a private business school. Established in the year 1981, it was India's first corporate sponsored business school.

Great Lakes Institute of Management (also known as Great Lakes or GLIM) is a private business school in India. It was founded by Bala V. Balachandran, a professor at Kellogg School of Management, with its first campus in Chennai.

Location

Certainly, an advantage is there which IMI Delhi has, being located in the capital of the country. However, Great Lakes is not too far behind as it is also located in the second most popular IT Hub of South India, Chennai.

Ranking 

Considering that InsideIIM’s rankings are based purely on the brand value of the B-schools, it is clear that over the years both the institutes are at par with each other.

Programs Offered

While both IMI, Delhi and GLIM, Chennai offer two year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), GLIM is better known for its one-year full-time Post-Graduate Program in Management (PGPM).

The Great Lakes PGPM is a fast track one year MBA program, designed for candidates with more than 2 years of full-time experience. The program has been consistently ranked in the top 10 one year MBA programs in the country. We’ll be taking into account the PGPM course into account for the comparison.

Admission Process

Great Lakes Institute of Management:

The applicants should have a bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution and they are required to apply through a valid GMAT/CAT/XAT /CMAT score. There are other parameters also included, such as a special preference for college/university rank holders. The application submission deadline is generally around the end of February and the PI schedule announced by Great Lakes falls in the month of March.

International Management Institute, New Delhi:

Candidates can apply to IMI Delhi’s PGDM program through a valid CAT or GMAT score. They will be shortlisted for the final stage of selection process based on details provided in the admission form, CAT/GMAT scores, educational background, marks in 10th,12th, graduation and work experience in any. The shortlisted candidates will have to appear for Extempore speaking, Psychometric Test, Essay Writing, Personal Interview.

Great Lakes Institute of Management (PGPM, class of 2018)

The campus placement process for PGPM Class of 2018 witnessed over 85% of the students receiving final placement offers as of 20th Feb 2018.

IT/ITES (36%) was the largest recruiting sector followed by Consulting (26%), BFSI (21%), Internet Business (8%) and Analytics (6%). The average CTC of the batch was 11.14 Lakhs p.a. and the highest CTC offered was 18 Lakhs p.a. till date.

Despite an increase in the batch size by 47% this year, making it the largest batch, placement at IMI has recorded an average of 12.23 lakhs. Amongst the 88 companies who made an offer, 21% were first-time recruiters.

The highest placement at IMI Delhi went up by 32% to Rs. 20.75 lakhs as against Rs. 15.6 lakhs last year. Although the average salary in Placement 2018 dropped by 2% to Rs. 12.23 lakhs from 12.54 lakhs last year, it is a marginal decline considering the batch size has increased 47%.

Curriculum

IMI, Delhi: 

The course for the PGDM program is spread over six trimesters, each trimester being of 11-12 weeks. The first three trimesters are devoted to foundation courses, across core areas of management.

Courses in the 2nd year are designed to offer students an opportunity to pursue their interests in various functional areas. Students will have the opportunity to specialize in the area of their interests such as Marketing, Finance, Strategy, Information Systems and Operations etc.

GLIM, Chennai:

The PGPM is a one-year residential program. The 1st year has 7 terms, Term 1-3 with core courses and Term 4-7 with elective courses. For a full list of electives visit here.

Campus Life

IMI, Delhi : 

The Institute encourages students to take up academic/professional initiatives in addition to their classroom learning with practical aspects of the real business world. Activities range from organizing special events focusing on current affairs to planned lectures that enrich the participants' professional, academic and extracurricular interests. Students have various academic/professional clubs in different functional areas.
