Hello! I am Nishant Lowanshi, currently pursing my post graduate program in management at the Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli. I had worked in Trident, one of the leading textiles manufactures in the country for 23 months. During my graduation from SGSITS, Indore as an Industrial Engineer, I was campus recruited by them. Initially, I was offered the role in Production Planning and Inventory Control (PPIC) department but because of my interest and educational background I was transferred to Industrial Engineering Cell. During the initial year of my job, I understood that despite having the sound technical knowledge I was lacking in skills when it came down to maintain relations with an external vendor or calculating even the smallest of the financial parameter. It was then I decided to prepare for CAT 2017 and join a post graduate program.
As the CAT results came and interviews went down, I had all second generation IIMs and few private colleges in the country to choose from. I decided criteria such as overall personality development, batch strength, campus life, great exposure, infrastructure, pedagogy, comfortable living, placements and summer internships to make my choice.
As the time was limited, I preferred to do a SWOT analysis for all the second generation IIMs. I found IIM-Trichy to have an upper hand in almost all the criteria I set. Trichy being a 2-tier city, I knew everything related to my needs will be available here. The institute was claiming to have state-of-the art infrastructure. As I came here, I realized the infrastructure is way beyond what they claimed. The classrooms equipped with the latest technology were something that caught my eyes. I realized I have chosen the best institute. The hostel rooms are air-conditioned with single occupancy. This gives enough comfort and freedom to students to indulge themselves in studies at the time of their choice. Its proximity to metro cities like Bengaluru and Chennai and having international airport gives it an edge to greet more companies for final placements and summer internships. I got in touch with seniors on Pagalguy and I found them to be very humble and helping. I searched the alumni base on LinkedIn and was astonished to know that everyone is holding a key position in top companies of the country. The pedagogy creates the base of an institution and when it comes to IIM-Trichy, all professors with a doctorate from premium institutes like IIM-A, B, and C clears the picture.
The general perception for IIM Trichy is very good. The final selection criteria ensure that there is diversity in the students joining the PGPM programme. Despite being in the south, IIM Trichy provides North Indian food and ensures that food does not become a barrier.
I was mainly attracted by various clubs and committee at IIM Trichy. It had clubs for almost all the major subjects that are taught during the tenure of two years. Academic clubs like Finvest inculcate more knowledge in an individual resulting in overall personality growth. Non-Academic clubs like Rangmanch and Culcom have the responsibility of gathering students from different cultures on one platform. Clubs Elixir has an onus to pay back to the mother Earth. They do so by organizing events like Tree Plantation etc.
I was really amazed as it was almost impossible to get all things in one growing college and choosing IIM Trichy is definitely my best decision in life.
Which ABG company would I want to work for and why?
If given chance, I would like to work for textile division of Grasim, Aditya Birla group. The main reason is that I have my 23 month work experience in textile sector and hence I will be having more learning and knowledge sharing with the group by simultaneously contributing to the growth of organization.
