DMS, IIT Delhi released its application form on 10 January, 2020. If you would have visited the admission portal, you must have come across the two programs that DMS offers- MBA General & MBA Telecom. Some of you must be wondering about how does MBA Telecom differ from the other programs and what are the advantages of one program over the other. So, let’s make one thing clear that MBA Telecom is a very unique program offered by DMS, IIT Delhi and does not restrict the students in any on-campus and off-campus opportunity.
The various aspects of these comparisons are:
1. Placements:
DMS has a combined placement process for both MBA General and MBA Telecom. All the companies visiting for campus recruitment (for both summer internship & final placements) give equal opportunities to the MBA Telecom students.
2. Clubs and Committees:
Much like placements, there is no difference made while selecting a student to work for any club or committee. The selection is completely based on one’s performance during the selection process. In fact, none of the clubs or committees include anything related to your course discipline.
3. Life on campus:
MBA General and MBA Telecom students get opportunities to enjoy every bit of IIT-Delhi campus life. The students enjoy the same mess food, the chilled night walks, the cherishing parties & the pride of Rendezvous.
Even the programs like Global Field Studies have no differentiation for MBA General and MBA Telecom students.
4. The Academic Perks:
MBA General and MBA Telecom students study under the same roof. In the first year, they have the same subjects. While most of the subjects are common in Second Year as well the real advantage for Telecom students occur when they get a chance to learn their domain-specific subjects. These subjects are designed by professors and industrial experts and give students enough exposure to build a career in this field.
Apart from curriculum, Telecom students get an added advantage in securing the IIT Delhi scholarship for first three rankers as the strength of Telecom students is around 20% of total batch strength.
So, we can definitely say that the boundary between MBA General and MBA Telecom is rather invisible and doesn’t come as any sort of hindrance. This can also be verified based on the testimonials of current MBA Telecom students mentioned below.
1. Mr. Ambika Prasad (Second Year, MBA Telecom)
“Unlike others, I only applied to MBA Telecom and I can proudly say that the decision was one my best decisions. As a Telecom student, I didn't face any kind of differential treatment in terms of placements or subjects available as electives. I also got a chance to understand the Telecom sector better from the lense of management. So overall, it has been a great experience for me.”
2. Miss Shubhi Agarwal (First Year, MBA Telecom)
There is no major difference in MBA and MBA - telecom. You just get to study a couple of domain-specific subjects of telecom. On the other hand, it serves a little advantage for telecom based industries.
