The GMC programme kicked off in the second week of March , when we received the details of our project as well as our mentor and buddy. I had multiple discussions with my mentor and buddy before coming to Mumbai to clarify the scope and deliverables of the project. These discussions gave a kick-start and were quite vital for me to get a deeper purview of the topic.
Just a day prior to the commencement of internship, we received a welcome momentous at our accommodation in Mahindra Park. The actual journey started from Media Cubes at Mahindra Towers in Worli. The induction session was very well articulated and executed by the GMC team. We were equipped with a prior understanding of the group as well as the business by the senior leaders of the respective domains. As the session progressed, we were in awe of the breadth and impact of the group across the community. The highlighting sessions were of Mr Anish Shah ( Group President Strategy ) and Mr Hemant Luthra (Chairman, Mahindra CIE ) followed by Dr Prince Augustin ( Group HR Director ) and Mr VS Parthasarathy ( Group CFO ). The sessions were well planned to introduce us to the philosophy, ethos and culture of Mahindra.
The next day we had a session with Dr Pawan Goenka ( Managing Director , Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd ). The session was filled with Q&A rounds with him, where he explained to us the future of mobility and how the group is playing a leading role in driving sustainable measures.
The major highlight of the first week was the town hall interaction with Mr. Anand Mahindra. The entire batch of GMC interns visited his Gateway office to interact with him, a tradition that truly highlights how the senior leaders value the GMC programme. We had a discussion over Leadership and the upcoming general election. Mr Mahindra drove the session with his own charismatic style. The lessons on leadership in defining the virtues were major takeaways from the session. The excitement was manifold when he tweeted my closing statements as his learning from the town-hall -
“ We need to distinguish between goal and purpose", and
“Our current purpose in life is to search for a purpose”.
The induction concluded in Kandivali, where we met a lot of senior leaders, who took us through the marketing campaigns, strategy and innovation in electric mobility of the group. We had a fun-filled board game session, where we made some great friends and all those shyness were literally whipped away after.
The induction concluded with an eight-hour session on Design Thinking from a prominent faculty of SPJIMR. The workshop was quite vital for us to understand the nuances of market research and the creation of a business case.
Overall the GMC programme induction intricately communicates to us the expectation and belief of the management on the GMC interns. It’s a well-designed programme bringing together the best minds across the country.
