Sometimes one does not want the journey to end, despite the quest to reach the destination. This summer internship has been that kind of a journey for me. To give you guys some context, I had my final review of my project by the CHRO yesterday. Although I had expected to feel euphoric after I had delivered this, I suffered from a sense of dilemma; for once, I was glad that I had successfully accomplished such a challenging project, while on the other hand, I did not enjoy the fact that the internship was about to come to an end. Anyway, what is of essence in this version of My Mahindra Diary is how I spent my week 5 and 6 and how I reached the last leg of this journey.
Week 5 and 6 were abundant in learning opportunities, while I travelled across various locations of Mahindra Automotive and Farm Sector and met numerous loyal and happy employees of the organization. My journey took me to Igatpuri, Nasik, Kanhe, Pune and Zaheerabad. For somebody who had never visited any manufacturing facility before, visiting one and interacting with people who put in their heart and soul to make these facilities run at the fullest was an exhilarating experience in itself. The Farm Division plant at Zaheerabad manufactures and assembles all varieties of tractors and sowing, tilling and harvest equipments, both for domestic and export markets. It is a visual treat to watch these beauties on the production line. The best experience amongst these was knowing that people here cared for each other, even for someone they have barely known.
While on a visit to Zaheerabad’s Farm Division, the scorching heat there took a toll on me and I decided to not go for lunch and stay back in the office. The people around, including the Plant Head there, were mindful to notice that I am skipping lunch and got concerned. They made sure that some fruits were made available for my consumption and I was taken good care of. They made me feel at home and I finally realized why so many employees said that Mahindra is like a “family”.
The culmination of this journey seems to be fast approaching with our sector review closing yesterday on a splendid note wherein the CHRO gave us constructive feedback and shared with us his thoughts on our project. But the toughest part here, so to cite, was articulating and presenting 2 months’ worth of hard work in less than 20 minutes. To top it all, just after the review was done, we interacted with the CHRO over coffee to share our experiences over these 6 weeks. That’s not it, we were also presented with Appreciation Cards signed by the CHRO, along with Mahindra Collectibles of the “Thar CRDe” as memento.
If I could describe the past few weeks at Mahindra in a phrase, it would definitely be “That’s how we Rise.!”
