With the amended pattern and uncertainty around the number of questions, CAT 2021 is definitely going to be as unpredictable as the previous years. The number of questions is expected to reduce to somewhere around 66-69 across the three sections from 76 in 2020. An additional factor impacting candidates’ scores will be that due to a decreased number of questions, there will be lesser flexibility on question selection than earlier.

To get an idea of what kind of score a candidate should target to achieve a 99+%ile, we analyzed score-percentile data collected over the last two years. Since the number of questions and exam duration has changed considerably since 2019, we decided to look at the percentage of total scaled marks required for a particular percentile range, instead of the absolute number. A fair disclaimer- this is only an analysis of the last two CAT papers, and the actual result may vary as per the difficulty levels of the questions asked this year.
