We are going to shift to our new campus next month and everybody in my batch is so damn excited about it. I'm also excited but feeling bad too. This campus of IIM Raipur is unique in its own ways. We only have a single building and everything from classes to hostels and administration office to mess is in the same building. I know that you would be amazed by thinking how this is possible. I was also shocked when I first came here and saw that how this institute is running in this one building only. But after staying here for a year now, I have realized how this small place is unique in its own way. It's hard to believe how we used to get up at 9:25 for 9:30 class and still make it as our hostel was adjacent to the classrooms only.
Be it group assignments, projects or corporate competitions, we could see students sitting in classrooms till late in the night. Everyone knows everyone because it's impossible for anyone not to notice everyone in such a small place. We all have heard the importance of networking in MBA and here the small campus played a big role in networking of people. You just get out of your room and you'll meet n number of different people on the way. Although the campus is small, we haven't faced any difficulty of any kind. Making efficient use of scarce resources can be learned just by staying at this place. I was an introvert guy, who would not have interacted with all these amazing people had this place not been so small. I'll definitely miss this place once we shift to the new campus.
Which ABG Company I would like to work for and why?
Given a chance to choose a company in Aditya Birla Group, I would like to work for Idea Cellular. There is a lot of consolidation happening in the telecom sector in India and it’s a challenging time for this business. It would be a great place for me to learn the nitty-gritty of how not only to handle disruption brought in by new players but also how to beat competitors. Moreover, with increasing smartphone penetration in India and government also focussing on digital India, there’s a lot of opportunities for Idea and me to grow in this segment.
