In this article, Gaurav Peswani,a student of IIM Ranchi who interned at ICICI Lombard in the Product Management domain talks about his summer internship experience. Find out about how he prepared for the summer placements, his onboarding process, his experiences & what his learnings are during this internship.
Hi, Tell us about how you got selected for this internship? Take us through the moment you realized you had got the internship.
ICICI lombard had the eligibility criteria of 2-4 year work experience & I had work ex of 46 months. The Lombard's wholesale profile made sense to me & after talking to few of the Alumni working with ICICI lombard, came to know about the role & responsibilities. Further, the interesting projects they give to interns. I was shortlisted based on my cv & asked about the preference among Wholesale, Retail & Underwriting.
What followed was a presentation on initiatives & business sectors which the company should try exploring. It was a group presentation for 30-45 mins. There were lot of questions and we were being guided on how to structure the implementation, Mitigation plan & Exit way.
Post that, It was the personal interview for 20 minutes which revolved around my interest in the field and some questions regarding my previous role & responsibility.
It was already midnight but we all were expecting one more round of interviews, but then the congratulations came to the WhatsApp group:-)
On joining the company as an intern, how has your onboarding experience been like?
Onboarding at ICICI Lombard was pretty well organized. We were contacted by company HR couple of days prior & basic requirements on platform & communication mode were already conveyed to all the interns. The Induction flow was focused more on the company's culture which we were going to be a part of.
Later, in the 2nd half we were assigned our project and during the meet with the Mentor, Goals & objectives were pretty clearly laid off for us. Whom to get in touch, discuss the daily deliverables, these all basic things were sorted out.
How has your interaction with the team members and colleagues been like? How will you make sure to leave the best impression on your supervisors by the end of the internship?
Interaction with the team members has been going pretty well, came to realize the different verticals and roles each one of them look after. My intention would be to understand the deliverables of my project properly and how that can be linked to company's prime focus. Coming up with initiatives which can in turn be implemented when servicing the customers
Tell us in brief, about the project you are currently working on and how is this project going to help the company?
I am being assigned work regarding implementation of new service offering in an already established domain. This is in line with what organization can offer to differentiate itself in the market and on the track of continuous improvement.
