TISSNET vs TISSMAT - What Is The Difference?

TISS's Management Aptitude Test (TISSMAT) was first introduced in the 2020 admissions process for TISS Mumbai's HRM&LR and ODCL programs. TISSMAT is a 45-minute test that tests a candidate's comprehension skills, management data interpretation skills, business awareness, and also tests their descriptive writing skills. The following are the key differences between TISSNET and TISSMAT.
TISSNET TISSMAT

TISSNET is the first step of the admissions process. A candidate's TISSNET score is used to shortlist candidates for further rounds of selection, including TISSMAT and the Online Personal Interview round. A candidate appears for TISSMAT only if he/she clears TISSNET and meets the cut-off. TISSMAT is the second step of the admissions process, and is followed by the Online Personal Interview round.

Understanding The TISS Admissions Process In Three Simple Steps

The TISS Mumbai admissions process for the M.A. HRM&LR and ODCL programs can be split into three steps. The first step involves attempting the TISSNET exam. The second step involves the shortlisting of candidates based on their TISSNET scores, following which they must appear for the TISSMAT exam. Within this step, after appearing for the TISSMAT exam, a candidate must also appear for the Online Personal Interview round. In the final step, TISS Mumbai shortlists candidates based on pre-determined weights. Please note that for the ODCL program, a minimum two year's work experience or more is also a required criteria. The following is a more elaborate explanation of this process.
Step 1 - TISSNET
The first step in the TISS admissions process for the HRM&LR and ODCL programs is appearing for TISSNET. TISSNET is conducted to shortlist candidates for Step 2, based on a candidate's TISSNET score and the ratio on the number of seats announced for individual programs under each category. In 2021, the TISSNET exam will be a 100 minute test, comprising 100 objective MCQs. While creating the final shortlist, TISS will assign a 30% weight to a candidate's TISSNET scores. The table below captures the latest TISSNET exam pattern. The test will comprise three sections which will be English Proficiency (30 questions), Mathematical and Logical Reasoning (30 questions), and General Awareness (40 questions). General category candidates must score at least 14 marks in the GA section to meet the cut-off. *Sectional cut off for General Awareness (GA) is applied for qualifying the TISSNET. Candidate not scoring minimum cut-off mark for the General Awareness as above will not be qualified for TISSNET irrespective of the aggregate score. Candidates shortlisted based on their TISSNET scores will be eligible to proceed to Step 2 of the selection process, where they will be required to appear for the TISSMAT exam as well as the Online Personal Interview. Take a demo of the TISSNET exam here.
Step 2 - TISSMAT + Online Personal Interview (OPI)
Candidate shortlisted based on their TISSNET scores will now be required to appear for the TISSMAT exam. Introduced first in 2020, TISSMAT is a 45 minute test which comprises four sections, including the Descriptive Writing section. Given below is the latest TISSMAT exam pattern. The test is out of a total of 50 marks and has negative marking for incorrect responses. Note - In TISSMAT, each correct answer in sections 1 to 3 will fetch +1 mark, and each wrong answer will result in -0.25 marks. Following the TISSMAT exam, candidates must appear for the Online Personal Interview (OPI) round. Only candidates who have appeared for TISSMAT will be eligible to proceed to the OPI round. Schedule of OPI will be announced after the shortlisted candidates are notified.
Step 3 - Creation of Final Merit List
After a candidate has appeared for TISSMAT and OPI, TISS Mumbai will create a weighted composite score based on a candidate's TISSNET, TISSMAT and OPI performance. This composite score will be used to create the final shortlist of candidates. The distribution of weights is captured in the table below.
