Which companies do India's brightest minds want to work with after their MBA? To find out, we asked b-school students across the country to share with us their dream companies across industries. Based on the responses gathered, we've compiled a list of the most desirable recruiters for the 2023 and 2024 batches at India's top MBA colleges.

Google, McKinsey, Amazon the top-three dreams companies for MBA students

The current MBA batches at b-schools across India have voted Google as their dream company to work with. Google is one of the foremost innovators and one of the world's most valuable companies. But what puts the company right at the top is it's fantastic work culture, with 97% of it's employees calling it a great place to work. This survey was conducted pre-layoffs, which begs the question: does the headcount reduction of 12,000 employees change how MBA students perceive the company? The same goes for Amazon, which laid off 18,000 employees globally and ranks third in the list of India's most desirable companies. McKinsey, which was ranked fourth last year, has broken into the top-three, with Hindustan Unilever (HUL) moving a spot down and taking its place. There is an overarching trend of an increasing affinity for Consulting, with the number of Consulting firms in the top-ten going from 30% to 50%. The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Microsoft, Accenture, Kearney, Procter & Gamble (P&G) and Apple have been the biggest gainers as compared to last year's results. Investment banks have slipped significantly, with Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan losing many positions. Coca-Cola has also slipped out of the top-ten and even the top-twenty. The Aditya Birla Group (ABG) has also lost a few positions.

TAS, Flipkart, ITC emerge as most desirable homegrown recruiters on campus

Amongst Indian companies, TAS comes out as the most desirable recruiter for b-school students for the third consecutive year. TAS, which only hires from a select few campuses, is the gateway to leadership positions at the prestigious and massive Tata Group. Flipkart, which was the fourth most sought-after Indian company last year, has moved up to the second position. Their flagship competition, WiRED, is one of the most popular case competitions at b-schools and most recently brought in a third of their MBA hires. ITC completes the list of the top-three most desirable Indian companies for b-school students. This year, the Adani Group has broken into the top-ten, ranking ahead of conglomerates like the Mahindra Group, Godrej, and most Tata companies. If a survey was conducted today, it'd be interesting to see how these rankings would be affected by the Hindenberg report. The Mahindra Group has risen in rankings, entering the top-ten once again along with Godrej. ABG has slipped marginally in its rankings, going from second last year to fourth this year. Asian Paints retains its position, as does Reliance Industries Limited (RIL).

How we created this list

In 2022, we reached out to the batch of 2023 and 2024 across India's top MBA colleges to share their thoughts on the b-school recruitment process. One of the questions the survey asked was for MBA students to reveal their top-5 dream companies. Based on the responses received, an overall weighted score was computed, which led to the overall rankings. Students responding to this survey belong to business schools like IIMs ABCLIK, as well as second and third generation IIMs. Respondents also belong to campuses such as FMS, XLRI, SPJIMR, ISB, MDI Gurgaon, SIBM Pune, IIFT, and NMIMS Mumbai amongst others.
