Throw a stick into a crowd of students at an IIM and, chances are, it'll land on someone who is deeply inclined towards a career in Consulting. Through
studies conducted by InsideIIM, it has been revealed that Consulting is, indubitably, the most sought after function for fresh MBA grads. Don't take our word for it - simply look at the
placement reports for the batch of 2021 to discover trends. So, which consulting firms do MBA students dream of working with? Which of the MBB or the Big 4 consulting firms do students want to work with most? To find out, we asked MBA students from across the country to share with us their preferences of the most desirable consulting firms to work with in India. Here's what we found.
MBB Continue To Be India's Dream Consulting Companies, Deloitte And Accenture Also Make It To Top 5
Unsurprisingly, the McKinsey, BCG and Bain - the MBB firms - dominate preferences when it comes to the most desirable consulting firms to work with after an MBA. These three firms have never slipped out of the top three since the inception of these rankings, only switching places within themselves every other year. Following the MBB firms are Deloitte and Accenture Strategy, of which the latter is a big recruiter at top Indian b-school campuses. The big four, i.e., PwC, KPMG, EY and Deloitte feature amongst the top ten most desirable consulting companies.
Notably, two Tata Group companies - TSMG and TCS - feature amongst the top 15 consulting firms to work with after MBA, and are the only two Indian firms to feature in these rankings.
How Did We Make This Report?
In 2021, we reached out to students from India's leading business schools to understand their thoughts and preferences when it came to the campus recruitment process. In the process, we gained some incredibly valuable data, including MBA students' most preferred management/technology consulting companies to work with after MBA. To arrive at this list of top consulting companies to work with after MBA, a weighted score was computed.
Students responding to this survey belong to business schools like IIMs ABCLIK, as well as second and third generation IIMs. Respondents also belong to campuses such as FMS, XLRI, SPJIMR, ISB, MDI Gurgaon, SIBM Pune, IIFT, and NMIMS Mumbai amongst others. Other campuses include IMT Ghaziabad, SCMHRD, Welingkar, KJSIMSR, XIMB, IMI New Delhi, and the IITs.
