An enthusiastic, determined, and adaptive individual with a vision to become a strategic leader, Vaishnavi Sonwalkar, is currently a 2nd-year student of MBA(IB) at Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi. Her passion for studying a management degree stems from her curiosity to explore the complexities of the business world and understand the dynamic decision-making process from the roots to evolve as a growth and goal-oriented leader in her career. She completed her B.E in Electronics and Communication Engineering from B.M.S College of Engineering, Bangalore, and further, interned with Honeywell Technology Solution prior to joining the MBA program. Her formal education has been completed in 8 different states of the country, thus giving her personality a blend of confidence and easy-going nature, along with the openness to adopt the multiculturalism of different places. She has always had an inclination to lead and mentor teams and has thus taken up multiple positions of responsibility over the years. In her free time, she loves surrounding herself with books and interesting conversations on startups and everything related to business.
Vaishnavi Sonwalkar, as a member of the Alumni Relations Committee during her MBA, took charge of hosting batch reunion events post-COVID lockdown. Despite minimal guidance, she strategically coordinated and executed activities like decor planning, logistics, marketing, and engagement. This experience enhanced her adaptability and decision-making skills, crucial for dynamic situations in her professional journey.
In terms of leadership, Vaishnavi actively contributed beyond self-improvement. From creating videos for social media guides to establishing a mentor-mentee program, she believes in stepping beyond regular responsibilities to assist others. Constructive feedback plays a pivotal role in her growth, and she consciously incorporates improvements based on feedback, aiming to bring out a better version of herself. These leadership stints have shaped her personality and equipped her for strategic decision-making in professional settings.
Leveraging her MBA skills, Vaishnavi emphasizes a global outlook, familiarity with dynamic trends, and comprehensive business scenario understanding. She sees herself contributing to companies with a cross-cultural focus, utilizing her strengths in consumer behavior understanding and effective communication. Her MBA journey has nurtured innovativeness and creativity, essential for providing out-of-the-box solutions in saturated or unexplored markets.
Vaishnavi's preferred industries include companies like TATA Administrative Services (TAS), Aditya Birla Group, Mahindra, Godrej, Amazon, Asian Paints, ITC, and Tata Consumer Products Ltd. Her interest lies in leadership development programs, strategic roles, and the marketing domain. Growing up in various cities has exposed her to diverse consumer behaviors, aligning with her specialization in International Business.
Her approach to teamwork involves synchronization, task allocation based on team strengths, and accountability for decisions. Being part of the TEDx Organizing Committee taught her the importance of collaboration, people management, and negotiation. These skills proved beneficial during her summer internship at Amazon, where she excelled in negotiating, trust-building, and team-oriented tasks.
Vaishnavi believes she deserves recognition as one of the Most Employable MBA Graduates - Class of 2024 due to her journey from a non-business middle-class background to securing a coveted position at Amazon on Day-1 of placements. Her multicultural exposure, leadership experiences, and ability to adapt contribute to her being a strategic decision-maker and a deserving candidate for the title.
