Teaching for over 8 years at IIM Ahmedabad, there is one thing that Prof. Debjit Roy can proudly say, ‘students at IIM A can really see the bigger picture'. And how exactly does it happen? Is it because of the kind of pedagogy that is in place, the alumni connect or the kind of professors that are there? It's actually a mix. InsideIIM's Professor of the Year 2020 from IIM Ahmedabad, Prof. Debjit Roy, speaks about the things that differentiate an IIM Ahmedabad student from the rest and why the school continues to be the best for decades! This is the third and final part of the three-part series of our first episode of the Professor of the Year 2020 video series.
Belonging to a lower-middle-class family in Odisha, being a professor was never really something that Prof. Debjit Roy thought would happen in his life. But his association with IISc Bangalore shaped up his worldview and his interest in academics grew further. An MS and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin was the next natural step that Prof. Roy took.
Prof. Roy came back to India and during his stint in IIM Ahmedabad, learned a great deal about how robust the structure at the premiere institute is and how it helps students to prepare for the future. Be it the case-based methodology of studies or providing utmost ownership to students, IIM A prepares students for the next natural step after graduation - leadership.
And all this is not possible without able professors. Prof. Debjit Roy is one such professor whom the students love. You can read about what some of his IIM A students said about his teaching methodology here:
