"You’re just a tweet away from your dream company", says Mr. Amandeep Singh Kochar, Business Director @ #VMLY&R.
Amandeep Singh Kochar did his engineering with hopes of becoming a hacker, but soon realized that it wasn’t his cup of tea. When he entered his b-school, IFMR Chennai, he fell in love with the way MBA is taught. Unlike engineering, MBA included a lot of peer learning and open book exams. Calling MBA a reflection of the real world, he explains how working together with his peers to find solutions led him to decide that he wanted to continue working in the same fashion throughout his career.
1. Even if you don’t study much during your engineering days, you will learn how to think structurally.
2. Your perspective on your job matters a lot. Even if you are only doing a job, you can do it as if it’s your own business.
3. While engineering and other degrees require you to cram in a lot of information, MBA functions differently. It is like the real world, where you have access to all the information you need and have to work together to find solutions.
4. Your approach to your job hunt matters. Instead of just sending your CV, if you add a personal touch to your cover letter or email, it matters. For eg. If you have an innovative idea for the company you are applying to, then include that in your cover letter. It shows initiative, creativity and the flair to perform.
5. The digital revolution is changing the world. Everyone prefers to watch videos over reading. The rise of Tik Tok and YouTube has opened up many new avenues for brands to market themselves.
6. A Business Director works almost like a consultant. Having to work with ad agencies and a lot of different brands, a business director not only competes with other ad agencies, but also with the big 4 consultancies.
