The very thought of a so-called Baby IIM makes some people snub students of these institutes off. But each of the Indian Institutes of Management is unique in their own way. IIM Sirmaur is one such so-called Baby IIMs. Before you all form any conceived notions about this college, allow me to present IIM Sirmaur in a way you’ve probably never seen before.
IIM Sirmaur is located in Paonta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh; a major industrial hub of the state. It became operational in 2015, under IIM Lucknow, and has been on the rise ever since. It is nestled in the lap of the great Himalayas and provides unparalleled views of the mountains around, thus has earned the moniker of ‘TheHimalayanIIM’. The lush greenery is soothing to the tired eyes, and also helps in concentration.
There is no harm in admitting that Sirmaur is not the most well-connected place and that Paonta Sahib, does not have the glitz and glamour of a Metropolitan city, but it can be viewed as a blessing in disguise. The students at IIM Sirmaur can concentrate on the academics better than most other students. Since the town has limited offerings on the front of entertainment, it fosters a strong bond between the seniors and juniors. All the major festivals of the country, as well as different regions, are celebrated with pomp and vigour. This forges new relationships and creates a home away from home. IIM Sirmaur is the only Baby IIM to boast of a unique International Immersion Program, where students spend 2-3 weeks in a foreign university and earn 2-course credits. The students of 2017-19 went to SDA Bocconi, one of the most prestigious business schools in the world.
Coming to sports facilities, IIM Sirmaur has one of the best sports infrastructures among the recent IIMs. It boasts of a recreation room with Table Tennis and Pool Tables, a fully equipped AC Gymnasium for the fitness enthusiasts, a Badminton Court and a huge Football and Volleyball Ground. Such superb sports facilities also double up as a meeting point of the seniors and juniors and pave the way for a strong bond between them.
Here at IIM Sirmaur, every single student takes the responsibilities together to support this growing institution when it needs to support the most. And with all the combined efforts it is only a matter of time before this fledgeling IIM takes its own wings.
