The Director, Dr. Prafulla Agnihotri, introduced the faculty and the institute, and addressed the audience. He talked about how the students must develop the ability to weather the storm and how there is a direct correlation between hard work and eventual success. IIM Tiruchirappalli currently has 35 full time faculty members and the new batch includes 7 students for the FPM programme and 180 students for the PGP programme. This translates to a Student to Faculty ratio of 8.5:1 which exceeds the University Grants Commission and Ministry of Human Resource Development norms of 10:1. He then went on to talk about the state of the art facilities at the new campus including the Harvard-style class rooms, the various labs such as the Finance Lab, the Behavioural Lab as well as the Centre for Management Sciences. He also thanked the NIT Tiruchirappalli administration and the institute for providing IIM Tiruchirappalli with excellent infrastructure and a conducive atmosphere for learning right from its inception.
Shri Suhas Nath Misra, Co-Founder & former COO, Hector Beverages, the Guest of Honour for the function, delivered his address to the budding managers. In his address, he talked about how management is all about creating value. He went on to elucidate about how there is a lot of wealth and value to be created as an entrepreneur and talked about fostering a spirit of entrepreneurship. He also talked to the students about how in the long run the IIM tag doesn’t really matter and it boils down to the quality of your work.
The Guest of Honour’s address was followed by an address by the Chief Guest, Mr. S. Gopinath, Chief Executive, BHEL. He began by congratulating the students of the new batch on making it to IIM Tiruchirappalli. He spoke about the students developing the “urge for creativity” and that this was the right time to hone this skill. He then spoke about diversity at the workplace and how it is essential to adapt and work together with your peers, subordinates and superiors. He also talked about the need to channelize the inner leader in you so you can deliver for the sake of the company. He concluded by wishing the students good luck on their journey ahead and ended with the timeless advice that if you learn to enjoy what you’re doing, nothing can stop you from achieving all your goals.
This was followed by felicitating the students of the 2015-2017 batch (PGP) for their academic achievements. Merit awards were presented to students who stood first in each of the three terms. Additionally the top five students of the batch at the end of the first year were placed in the Director’s Merit List and were presented with a Merit Certificate and a Book Grant.

Prof. K.S. Manikandan, Chairperson, PGP, proposed the Vote of Thanks. The programme concluded with the National Anthem and a Cultural Program.
Smt. Vijaya Mukundan, Director Salangai Academy and her team presented variety of dance forms including Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyatam and Folk Dance.
As the institute gears up to move into its state-of-the-art new campus this year, this is a special inauguration for the incoming batch. The new campus will include the academic building equipped with Harvard-style class rooms, seminar halls, FPM student rooms, faculty rooms and will be flanked by the Academic office and the Food Court on either side. Complemented by a cutting edge library complex, housing some of the best learning resources and facilities, will raise the standards of student learning. The student hostel blocks will be air-conditioned and a Sports Complex will be established with multiple sports facilities.
