After the heartbreak of not getting a call from the six OLD IIMs, and missing it by that much, it was time to come out of all sorrows and despair, and look forward, to life. Even after converting all the new IIMs, looking forward wasn't easy, after all we had this doubt on our capabilities, and the ego to take the new, NEW just for the sake of the name. There was this uncertainty, sit for the next year, but what about that uncertain CAT, or take up what I get. The second option seemed practical, and now came the battle to CHOOSE...which, Ranchi, but the parents would not agree for the non-safe image of Ranchi, and even the college and hostels were far, I did not want to go there. Then Raipur or Udaipur, came the time to ask the real folks sitting there, go for Udai, as one of them had to say, saying words like Culture, Discipline, Transparency and Janat-the Man has got a vision, go there. These were the words that brought me here, but they were still words for me, and I came here, holding those words within me, and also that so called ‘Dilemma’, was my decision right. But as I came here, and two days passed, this is what I got here...
The campus, the location, the feel of Jannat...(paradise)
And something I could not imagine would I find in Rajasthan, the famed ‘Land of Desserts’…
But something even more important than these things was, those words started to make meaning to me, I could experience those things, with each passing they. Having mutual respect as one of core values, there is this respect for each other, this care, this regard, whether it's staff, the junior, the senior, the community as a whole, which is what makes this place unique, making all of us feel like we all are a family, at the level of a community, something which I had not experienced before in my life. Discipline, academic rigour, no less than any B School in the country. And a plethora of opportunities, a body to help at the emotional level, interpersonal level, academic level and opportunities to improve, grow and enhance your profile, which I utterly needed being a fresher. And there was this one thing which touched me the most, the support of the seniors, who would take time out of their rigorous schedule to make sure we don't feel down by this rigour of the MBA, who would ensure we don't miss a meal due to any submission, who would take our queries and guide us in detail, who would wake up all night to see we are fine. Three weeks and I realise, what does U in that IIMU means, and what all I could miss in my life, if I was not here, missing the views that soothe my eyes, missing the care that soothes the soul, and finally I can say, coming here was a decision worthwhile.
Which ABG company I would like to work for and why?
The Aditya Birla Group company that I want to work for is Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited because of the kind of work it offers. This segment ensures no two days are same, as this industry is ever changing, there are fast changes takes place, bringing something new to deal with every single day. Being in the retail business also means the opportunity to work on the back end at the same time have direct contact with the customers coming from different age groups, backgrounds, tastes and preferences, and dealing with them, working according to them is going to be a learning experience in itself. And being in this industry means well connected to what's happening around, as it involves being constantly open to all that's happening around, the changing trends, our client's reactions to them and how everyone finally adapts to it.
