If you have the confidence of a thousand people to back you up, you are a formidable opponent but if a thousand people have the confidence that you are there to back them up, then you are a true leader. Throughout my life, the latter is the kind of leader I have aspired to be. Often, it is not the enigma of the personality that captivates the follower but the lure of the ideals and principles the leader keeps. The leader is a beacon that propagates the ideas and principles he symbolizes.
I believe it is the Vision, the innate Courage, the Clarity of thought and the unperturbed Moral compass what sets leaders apart from the rest and these are the qualities I have worked to polish throughout my life.
When people fight battles, leaders fight Wars. I have never let myself be caught up myopic battles of ego. My eye has always been firmly set on winning the War. The long term general good of the people you represent and take onus for is the only success any leader should aspire for.
En route this, every challenge I have faced has refined me as a leader, many times I was offered the luxury to take shortcuts, life would have been easier, at least in the short run, if I had opted to take those shortcuts but I have never been one to shy away from hard work. I believe the best way to lead is by example.
The world needs leaders but what kind of leaders?
For that, we must remember the wise words of the People’s President, Shri APJ Abdul Kalam, “Righteousness is the beginning.
What we need is a carrier of eternal goodness and wholesomeness in human conduct, which is righteousness.
Where there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in the character.
When there is beauty in the character, there is harmony in the home.
When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation.
When there is order in the nation, there is peace in the world.”
