Ubiquitous is an adjective that perfectly summarizes the Aditya Birla Group.Since its inception in 1857, the Aditya Birla Group has contributed its fair share in making a remarkable impact on the lives of people across multiple demographics. From cement industries, textile businesses to Telecom,Financial and Fashion services, the company has been a front runner in all the segments it has forayed into. Their diverse product portfolio has been conceptualized in a way that everyone one us is associated with the brand in some way or the other. Shopping at Van Heusen for your formal suits, shopping at pantaloons for your college wardrobe or purchasing freshwrap for your school tiffins, each one of has ticked off a minimum of one item on this list.
However, my fondest memories of this huge conglomerate are of the entertaining advertisements that were created for its Idea Cellular network! In fact each one of them fits in perfectly at all the important junctions of my life.
So to begin with, like a majority of students or more appropriately engineers in our country, I too felt a need to do something different after my B.E., but what to do differently was something I wasn't clear about. The “No idea.Get Idea” tagline was a perfect representation of the dilemma that I was in.The “No Idea,Get idea” campaign was one of Idea’s most innovative creations. In just four words, it taught me that bigger is not always better.Simple and crisp ideas are equally good if not better in getting your point across. Coming back to the story,at this point the idea of pursuing an MBA crept into my mind and I had my - ’What an idea sirjee” moment. I decided I would focus all of my energy into getting into IIFT. Not “IIM” or even a “IIN”.For the uninitiated, the “IIN” campaign of Idea was a bit misleading and did face its fair share of backlash. However, the concept of self-empowerment facilitated through the power of the internet was conveyed on point by this advertisement. Managing my studies along with a job as an analyst at an Investment Bank was not an easy task. Time management was of utmost importance. Every bit of free time that I could scrape of, was invested into my MBA
Preparation. I diligently worked towards converting this idea of mine into reality and finally my efforts paid off and I got into the institute of my dreams. On the day the results were announced, when I informed my parents they seemed skeptical and did say “No ullu banawing”, to which I replied affirmatively that IIFT was where I was joining and this is “#MeriRealLife’. Unlike the life we present to the world on social media, this was a journey of raw hard work, blood, sweat and tears.
Like the lyrics of the quirky “hunny bunny” song, there were many points in my life where things didn't really make sense individually.I didn't really know what I wanted out of my life and this lead to me getting complacent. I worked really hard to get out of this mindset and now when I look back at the journey, I feel all these individual quirky moments came together beautifully to create a perfect harmony that is my life now.
