How did you overcome the challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
I come from Sangli, a small city situated on the banks of Krishna river.
In 2010, I completed my schooling and was admitted to diploma engineering course at my hometown. It was my dream to pursue undergraduate degree from the educational hub of Maharashtra – Pune. But, as it is well known, there is always a gap between dreams and reality. The gap so wide that only hard work and perseverance can overcome it.
My parents were not very happy with my decision. They wanted me to stay back and complete my education in Sangli itself. It was the last year of Diploma in Electrical Engineering. I started convincing my family, specially my father. He agreed but on the condition that he would allow me only if I got admitted to a Government college. The diploma to degree admission intake was only twelve seats. The competition was tough as every year nearly sixty to eighty thousand students appeared for the exam. But I was determined. I spent most of my time in college library. I used to study for thirteen hours a day. Even while eating food, I always read my notes. I had pasted the formula notes on the mirror. To save time I read them whenever I got ready.
The exams went well and I stood third in all over Maharashtra. I was admitted to College Of Engineering Pune. When my father came to drop me to Pune, I could see pride in his eyes.
I felt I had really overcome the challenge as I not only got into a premier college, but also made my family proud.
Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life?
Aditya Birla group of companies spans over 34 countries. It is anchored by a strong force of over 120000 employees, belonging to 42 nationalities. It is the largest producer of cement in India along with other interests like non-ferrous metals, telecom services, financial capital, textile services, carbon black and fashion.
I have a very personal and a close to heart story related to Aditya Birla Group's 'Pantaloons' store. The incident that makes Aditya Birla Group big in my life.
It was my B school interview. Also, things were very busy at the office and I was overloaded. I had no time to shop for formal outfit. It was late and I couldn’t hunt for formal wear in the shops in city. But, there comes ‘ABG’ to the rescue. I found all the big brands under one roof and that was the Pantaloons store.
Apart from that, the CSR activities undertaken by ABG are making a difference in the Indian society. It undertakes initiatives focussed on healthcare, education, sustainable livelihood programmes and infrastructure . I have an inclination towards working for women welfare and child safety. I wish to do something that improves the life of the under privileged hard working women who do not get enough resources to prove themselves. ABG group is doing exactly the same thing that makes a country and an individual in particular 'proud'. The sense of giving back to the society and uplifting a strata is indeed a noble cause. Another notable reason why Aditya Birla Group is 'big' in my life.
