From this I understand that life doesn’t end with your last breath; your work and the people you influence lives on. Since I was a child I’ve always had this innate feeling of doing something bigger than myself, an ardour for making sense of our being, of what we wake up for every day. In the least, I wanted to find a way to replace what I’ve taken from the world.
I’ve had this feeling right from 3rd grade in school where we were taught about the world and just got a look into how it grew, I have kept a keen eye on the issues we face in everyday life. The simplest, most basic being water and electricity. Inundated into our everyday lives and something we cannot survive without. Growing up on streets covered in litter and imaging the world choked with plastic, struggling a couple of hours without water during summer when a third of the world is suffering through a drought. I sought out platforms and meetings where I could learn more.
Only recently into my young adulthood did I find my voice and worked with groups on sustainability and recycling. Starting first with myself and my habits I found like-minded individuals who shared my zeal and we got the community to participate. We currently save a 1000kgs of waste from choking our limited landfills, compost wet waste to reduce methane gas output and have repositioned sewer lines out of our few community lakes alongside cleaning drives.
I hope to carry on this spirit onto a bigger platform as I learn and grow. I want to keep the belief that one person can make a difference, however small!
