Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life?
The Aditya Birla Group was founded in the year 1857. That was the time of British oppression they were doing all they can to shut down the Indian Business and make the British industries flourish in this market. Even with all the odds against it, the Birla not only survived but even grew. As of now, the Aditya Birla Group has crossed the mark of $50 Billion.
While growing up I have heard of a big Indian conglomerate the Aditya Birla Group but it took me a while to know what they actually do. The reason for it, the Birla group never had to rely on their names for their products to succeed. All of their products have made a name for themselves. I believe the saying “The fathers are proud when they are known by their son’s name” applies quite well. I mean how many Indian’s actually know that Louis Philipe, Allen Solly, Peter England, Van Heusen are actually Indian brand? I believe the answer will be not many.
I believe Pantaloons Brand has played quite a big role in my life. It is a brand that had actually taught me the meaning of brand, fashion, comfort and that the clothes are quite important in our lives. I believe it was 2010 when I first visited the Pantaloons store before that the clothes were just clothes for me. I never even spent a second to actually think about them. But all that changed during my first Pantaloons visit. It was a place filled with variety, comfort, brands. It took me a while to take it all in. Ever since that day I have actually thought about what I am wearing. Why? Because ABG taught me so.
How I have overcome challenges to fulfill my ambitions?
I have completed my 12th from a school that holds academics over everything else which means no sports, no competitions, nothing. So, when I joined my engineering college I severely lacked any people skills or speaking skills. It took me forever to make a friend in college and I would shake to my boots if someone asked me to speak in front of a crowd. All this had somewhat restricted me when it came to utilizing the full potential of my engineering for my personal development.
Then came an opportunity, BrainOmania, it was an event for 9th to 12th school students for the state of Jharkhand and was to be organized only by the first years of our college in our summer vacations. I decided to be a part of it without even thinking for a second. It was an opportunity to overcome my fears, I wasn’t going to let it go. The event was supposed to be organized by a team and given my lack of people skills I thought it was going to be hard for me to work in a team. The event started with 25 students and within a month only 8 of us remained. Given the number of districts, we had to cover it seemed like an impossible task but we decided to just give it a shot and try our best. At this point in time I realized how important people skills are, working in a team we felt invincible moreover I got comfortable working in a team. But then came another nightmare, initially we were supposed to visit schools in pairs requesting permission and then organizing the event. However, since we were quite short on members it was decided that instead of pairs individual members will cover individual schools.
This was a herculean task for me, I not only had to take permission from school management but also speak in front of hundreds of students. It took me a couple of schools to get comfortable but after that, I never had any problems with speaking in front of a crowd. The event was so successful that all of us were recognized by not only our school but also from the HRD minister of Jharkhand. However, it was just the beginning for me. During the next two years, I had organized a lot of other events which only boosted my confidence further and selection at SJMSOM, IIT Bombay is a result of such experience.
