“Change is the only constant.” We all are familiar with this quote. Adapting to changing environments is an essential skill and it is something which I have experienced in my life since childhood. It all happened as my father was transferred after every few years to various cities across Uttar Pradesh. Due to this, I spent my childhood and schooling across multiple tier-2 cities in Uttar Pradesh. It came with its own challenges. Every city had a different culture, different people and for me, different schools with different students. Also, we usually had to shift around July when the school sessions had already started for some time, making adjusting all the more difficult.

This continued as I went to Kota after my class XII board exams to have another attempt at engineering entrance examinations. I performed well and got into a prestigious engineering institute in Tamil Nadu. Now, it was a happy moment but again with some uncertainty as to how I would adjust in a new state and a new culture. I did not find it difficult to adapt this time around and performed well there scoring good marks and getting a job through campus placement. The job required me to report for a training program of 3 months in Chennai. There I met many friends and in fact helped some of them adapt to the city and life. After the training, I was given Hyderabad as my location for work. It was again a new city in a new state for me. But by now, I was used to the process of shifting and adapting. I had a wonderful experience living and working there.

When I tried to get into a b-school, I got my preferred b-school in a later merit list. Upon reaching here, I am facing the same situation again. Students have already settled in, the course has picked-up pace and I am having to catch-up. But with my experience and ability, I am sure of making it through and doing well here.

Aditya Birla Group (ABG) has had a long journey in the Indian market, having started back in 1857. It has successfully adapted to the changing market and consumer needs and achieved huge success. Whereas there have been organizations that have risen and fallen in all these years, ABG continues to grow and go strong. This again emphasizes the importance of adaptability.

ABG has been a part of my life in many ways, shopping at Pantaloons was my first introduction to big retail stores. I frequently shop at Pantaloons for the latest in fashion. As I became a professional, my daily formal needs were taken care of by the brands of Peter England and Allen Solly. Now that I am at a prestigious business school, I have Van Heusen and Louis Phillipe that provide me the best quality suits so that I am always dressed sharply to create an impression.

Survival of the fittest in this world has often been proven to be true. It is because of such qualities that ABG is definitely ‘Big in my life’.
