Q1. Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life?

Aditya Birla Group being one of the biggest conglomerates in India comes under the purview of the prestigious Fortune 500 companies. It is present in numerous sectors such as banking, branded apparel, cement, financial services, metals, mining, telecommunication, textiles, chemicals, pulp & fibre and many more.

In my life, branded apparels plays an important role in my fashion choices and appetite. Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL)owned Pantaloons, Allen Solly and Van Heusen fulfils all of my fashion requirement. Being in a B-school, good formal wear is of utmost importance when it comes to looking presentable. I feel Van Heusen is one of the best brands for office and college requirement, with up-to-date designer clothes.

Another segment of Aditya Birla Group which impacted my life was the telecommunications services. I have been using Vodafone cellular network since the time I bought my first phone. It has been a great experience using Vodafone, with brilliant accessibility and cheap prices.

Thirdly, UltraTech Cement Limited, being the largest manufacturer of cement in India, is the company which provided the cement for my house back in Kolkata.  Aditya Birla Group has helped played an integral part in providing me with a home.

Thus, it has been proven what a big part Aditya Birla Group plays in my life. Given the magnitude and kind of businesses that the Group is involved in, such as cement, clothes, bags, financial services etc, I believe ABG plays as big a role in any average Indian citizen’s life.

Q2. How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?

The one ambition I had always had was to get into a premier B-school for pursuing my MBA from one of the best colleges in India. I believed that getting an MBA after having some amount of work experience would be a better learning experience for me. After I finished my graduation, I worked with Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP for two years, while preparing for the dream I had for myself.

It was a difficult journey, as studying after 10 hours of a desk job everyday was getting very hectic. The second year was even more cumbersome as I had just been promoted to “Senior Executive”, which increased the amount of responsibilities on me immensely. Now, I was not just responsible for the work that I was doing, but I was also equally responsible for the kind of work three juniors under me were doing. The working hours increased to 12 per day, and suddenly I could feel the pressure increasing on me. When the entrance examinations’ dates were nearing, my team’s busy season started. It was a time of havoc, and hardly any sleep. But somehow, I managed by studying late nights, weekends, pushing myself to believe that these 4-5 months of hardship will all be worth it when I get into the best B-school.

This is how I overcame the biggest challenge I faced: time crunch. I believe it has made me a more responsible and efficient person. I achieved my ambition, and here I am, in SBM, NMIMS Mumbai, truly one of the best colleges in the country, studying what I always wanted to. Hard work does pay off.
