I remember my school days, when having lunch with my friends used to be one of the best parts of my day. Being a grown up now, I realize the efforts made by my mother to make the best food I had ever had. Then ABG launched Freshwrapp. Almost every child in my class was having and sharing warm food with each other. The Freshwrapp was not only our savior but an assurance to so many mothers that their children enjoyed the warm love they sent everyday. It is difficult to define “big” but that piece of foil did create some beautiful memories for so many lives. Whether it be bringing the much desired brands like Forever 21 to India or providing world class fashion options to Indians like Pantaloons and Planet Fashion at affordable prices, ABG has given everyone plenty of options to look fashionable.
Being such a big entity in the world, ABG has also set several benchmarks of sustainable development across many countries. Aditya Birla Chemicals has been actively involved in several environmental programmes and its environmental policy is regarded as one of the best in the business. The many accolades earned by the Aditya Birla Group like winning the Excellence Award on Environment Good Governance and many more, bears witness to the contributions they have made. Being an employer to more than 120,000 people across 35 countries it goes without saying that the ABG has enriched so many lives. Apart from providing opportunities, ABG’s CSR activities exceed Rs. 500 crores across the globe. Collaborating with several government schemes, the statistics of the welfare done is astounding as well as heartwarming.
Growth of any company is driven by strategy and passion, but helping others grow with the company requires a vision. Aditya Birla Group continues to prove that it is “BIG” in vision.
How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far.
We face many challenges throughout our lives. How we overcome them forms the crux of our personalities. Of all the challenges I have faced, one of them changed me completely. Though being a diligent employee, I was always the kind of person who shied away from taking responsibilities. While working at a firm, I was asked to take charge of training a group of new recruits in our project and together complete a work with approaching deadline. With this task at hand, I became nervous and started making excuses. I took a casual approach in training the new recruits and planned on using their inexperience as an excuse. After sometime I realized my actions were not only a waste of opportunity, my selfishness would also result in a bad experience for others too. I decided to take ownership. I started training the group and laid out a timeline we needed to complete the work. I also ensured that I led by example and put in extra hours to identify our shortcomings and modified the plan of action every day. I also gave each one of them feedback of their daily progress and areas they could improve on. With these activities we were able to complete the work on time. Our efforts were appreciated by the leadership and I was recognized for my efforts. This experience transformed my outlook towards taking responsibilities and I decided to take ownership where it was needed, in both my professional and personal life. This has made me grow as a leader and my approach towards teamwork has been improving ever since. While studying at IIFT, my mindset not only helps me network with so many talented individuals, but also recently helped our team win an intra college sales pitch competition.
