Why Aditya Birla Group Is Big In My Life

A $41 billion conglomerate, the Aditya Birla Group is in the League of Fortune 500. The Group is anchored by an extraordinary force of over 1,20,000 employees, belonging to 42 nationalities, spanning 36 countries.

The Aditya Birla Group enjoys a leadership position in all the sectors in which it operates, be it, metals, cement, textiles, telecom, financial services, retail, branded apparel, power or trading. Its products and services touch every person. For example, I have been going to the Pantaloons for more than 7 years now and it never happened that I had a bad purchasing experience. Be it the availability, quality or price of the products or be it the humility of their staff, the brand has always lived up to my expectations. Not only this, the brand has always come up with new types of services like giving certain kinds of coupons and discounts in every few months thereby making the buying experience even more pleasant.

The Group is also involved in meaningful welfare driven activities that distinctively impact the quality of life of the weaker sections of society, surrounding hundreds of villages that are among the poorest in India, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Egypt.

For instance, the Group runs 56 schools which provide quality education to 45,000 children. Of these, over 18,000 children are from underprivileged communities. Additionally, over 100,000 youngsters benefit from its educational programmes and vocational trainings.

As I myself have been involved in some social activities, I find it very soothing to see that in the world where the main purpose of most of the companies is just making as much profits as possible, corporations like the Aditya Birla Group understand their social responsibilities and are dedicating their time and resources towards the wellness of the society. Such contributions create an impact in the lives of the people who have faced difficulties in life. This also reflects one of the values of the group i.e. ‘Commitment’. Commitment to give something back to the society, commitment to change the lives of people who have lost hope and commitment to grow with the people.

How Have I Made An Impact

The value of commitment has created a strong impact in my life. When all my hopes and dreams were getting shattered in front of me, it was this commitment that kept me going ahead.

During the last year of my college, in the last semester, I suffered liver infection and fell severely ill. I had to take break from the college and went home. This was the time when companies had started coming for placements and so I was not able to sit in the interviews of the companies which were coming during this time. I got very low grades in the first semester and therefore, had to work very hard in the other semesters to maintain good grades. But finally, I was able to improve my grades to a more than satisfactory level and was getting shortlisted in almost all the companies. But when the companies were coming for final placements, I was sitting at home helplessly and couldn’t do anything about it. That was the feeling of total helplessness and regret and I almost lost hope of getting a good job. But with my family’s support and my own will power I decided to do anything and everything to get better fast and fortunately my health started improving. I went back to college and doubled my efforts and finally landed a great job with Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd. I could only do it because I did not lose hope and since then, I have learnt to never give up no matter how much the odds are against me.
