Just like how a beautiful jigsaw puzzle is formed out of a multitude of smaller tiles, the big things in life are also a combination of smaller things that seem simple and inconsequential when considered individually. Following this trail of thought, it makes one wonder if Seth Shiv Narayan Birla had any idea of the legacy his cotton and jute trading business would reap. 162 years down the road, the jigsaw puzzle is humongous and still expanding. Aditya Birla Group is India’s third-largest private conglomerate and operates in over 30 different countries, handling a wide variety of businesses.
It is unlikely that your life has not been influenced by Aditya Birla Group at one point or the other. Whatever your need may be, the company has something to offer you. Looking for an investment avenue to park your funds or a loan facility to build you dream home? Aditya Birla Finance has what you are looking for. Ultratech has become synonymous with cement and it will be hard to find a construction site where you do not find a sack of Ultratech. It is reasonable to see a similar effect happening in the telecom sector now that Idea and Vodafone have joined hands to help reduce the distance between people more than ever. Wearing a Louis Philippe is a statement of pride whether you’re going to a party or for an interview.
This is only a fraction of the businesses Aditya Birla Group holds in their palm. Whether you realize it or not, a much larger array of brands and products that you come across and possibly utilize regularly can be traced back to the company. But that’s not all. Aditya Birla Group is also touching millions of live through their social responsibility activities. The company is involved in the operations of hospitals, educational institutions, thousands of medical camps, and immunization programmes. Novelis, one of the subsidiaries owned by Aditya Birla Group, runs an initiative for the recycling of aluminium.
Therefore, it is clear that Aditya Birla Group influences all our lives. The biggest takeaway from this story is that you can change the world bit-by-bit through one little deed at a time. To sum up, Aditya Birla Group is bigger than we think in all of our lives, not due to any big, pompous gestures, but by virtue of the subtle ways through which they gradually make the world a better place.
Greatest Challenges Come from Within
It so often happens that we get so caught up in chasing behind our aspirations that we tend to forget the more important things in life. It’s not until life delivers you a big blow that you open your eyes to the things you have been taking for granted. Recently in my life, I went through such an ordeal that had a profound impact on how I viewed life. I was so consumed with my goal of getting into a good b-school that I neglected taking care of my health. My stubbornness did not last much longer as I developed some serious health issues soon after that.
What followed was eight months of excruciating pain that took a heavy physical and mental toll not just on me, but my family too. There were plenty of days across that period when it was a struggle to even get out of bed and I had to be carried to the hospital. It was during this period that I had to attend the entrance exams and selection processes for various colleges. But I was in no shape to do so and I had lost all confidence in my own abilities.
However, I knew that I could not let this hold me back. If I gave up to this disease, I would have to let my failure control me forever. It was difficult to keep myself motivated. But with relentless support from family and friends, I persisted. Amidst all the trouble, I surprised myself by getting interview calls from a bunch of great b-schools. It was in the same condition that I travelled to Mumbai(against my doctor’s advise to avoid long trips) to attend the selection process at NMIMS and I am proud of myself for securing an admission in the college.
If this experience has taught me anything, it’s that while it is important to work hard for your goals, you should never turn a blind eye towards things like mental and physical well-being. They may not seem like a big deal as long as you have them, but as the saying goes, you don’t realize what you have until it’s gone. Also, no challenge is too great to overcome if you do not let it control you. All you need is a strong will to face them and the rest will work out as it is supposed to.
