Growing up every kid has their ambitions to make a dent in the world and making a dent comes with its set of challenges. While most inspiring stories are about fighting the world to overcome these challenges, some battles are internal. Growing up we are all told that we’re talented or intelligent or gifted to be successful. Like many, I too believed that talent is enough to take me anywhere I want.
I was a consistently average student in school and was never able to be in the top 1% that I had aspired to do. This happened with me in the 10th Standard and repeated in the 12th Standard. Like many engineering aspirants, I too wanted to do my engineering from a prestigious college but failed to do so.
That’s when I realized that I expected this to happen without much effort, without pushing myself. I learnt the hard way that nothing in life worth having, comes easy. If it was easy, everybody could do it. You need to put in the hard work and be persistent in order to succeed. I realized that nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent and unrecognized genius. This scared me to my core and forced me to change my ways. I worked harder than before and was persistent to continue to do so. I worked through my graduation and my job to make myself better. Doing an MBA was a dream, but I dreamt to be in the best B-school. I put in the work and time and continued to get better. I managed to get an admission to the most premier B-School in the country, MDI Gurgaon.
