PART A - “Why Aditya Birla group is so big in your life?”
The Aditya Birla group is significant in my life in so many ways. The $44.3 Billion, Fortune 500 conglomerate spread over 35 countries is built on the strong foundations of strong leadership, stakeholder value creation, responsible business practices and integrity. The group was named the AON best employer in 2018 for the third time. The strong ethical code, passion for work, helping people grow within the corporate structure and the sheer dint of sustainability for nearly two centuries speaks volumes about the intrinsic value of the group. The ideals shape my own innate beliefs.
The many world leading brands that the Aditya Birla Group has nurtured and made a part of our daily life reflect life in so many different aspects. The fingerprint of their many enterprises is there in every walk of life. The company influences my daily life with the retail chain Pantaloons, apparels from Linen Club, Allen Solly, American Eagle, Forever 21, Hackett, Ted baker, Liva, and Louis Philippe to name a few. The brand Freshwrapp and Superwrap helps me keep my food fresh. My family’s health, wealth and life are secured with financial products from the Aditya Birla Capital group. Birla Carbon keeps us safe on roads and propels trains. Ultra-tech Cement helps build homes. The group can boast of being the number one in most of the industries they have a presence in. There are many more brands that are integral to life and demand mention.
My personal brush with ABG comes with their diverse and inclusive CSR activity. The company transcends conventional business ethos to create a platform that brings healthcare, education, and sustainable livelihood to the downtrodden masses. The idea of giving back to society has been a part of the Aditya Birla Group since its inception. My zeal to work towards inclusive growth and societal development has been fueled by the group’s various initiatives. The group believes in nurturing people and I am a people’s person. The people centric values of the company have shaped my personal beliefs towards team work, industriousness and growth.
PART B - “How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?”
The drive and passion to overcome challenges and forge ahead in life is an intrinsic value I learnt since childhood. The crests and troughs of life teach us many valuable lessons. Many of them are also learnt in the presence of leaders at work. Life ingrains a set of work values and ethos that remains embedded in your psyche till the end.
I am a peoples’ person and that reflects in the way I work and interact. The seeds of humanitarian values, team work and empathy sown within my moral fabric during my younger years make me a little different from the pack. The community service that I was a part of humbled the very core within me. I had a deep-seated fear of public speaking. The social interaction and lessons I took away from my student life helped motivate me and dispel the low self-esteem. Today, I am as confident as the next person and do not hesitate to put my views forth. This ability plays a big part in my dream to work in the Human Resources space.
The energy that I derive from just working with people who are motivated and focused is humongous. My learning is not confined to the jobs in hand but pervades the very essence that represents me as a person. The biggest take away is the ability to turn hardships into strength of purpose. I struggled with weight issues early in life and suffered low esteem and was bullied. It took a lot of guts to face the body shaming and later to work out my way to health and fitness.
The lows I had experienced at an early stage when I was performing operational activities was a period of personal angst. I could not motivate myself to function optimally. It took a reserve of latent strength and a gentle push from a senior to climb out of the deep dark well of despair. The will to succeed against all odds and the determination to make a mark in not only the work place but also in the society made me claw out of the abyss and walk with my head held high. The mind-set and attitude that makes me a winner is rooted in grit and struggle. I celebrate the will to succeed and the zeal to excel that grows within me every single day!
