PART A

WHAT AN IDEA SIRJI

Ever since my childhood, the Aditya Birla group has been in close consonance with various facets of my life. From its subsidiaries like Pantaloons to ultra tech cement, they all have played an integral part in their own ways. Being a kid from a military background, one get's used to moving from one place to another. Who would not want to experience the varied and rich heritage of a country as diverse as ours? This gave me an opportunity to do my schooling from four completely different regions. With these perks sometimes one has to deal with liabilities too. One of those being away from one’s dad. As would be the case with any other kid of that age, it was pretty difficult for me to bear it. As my dad was posted in Assam at that time, it was always heartening to talk to my father over a phone call. Although we both were hundreds of miles apart but 'idea' played the role of the communication bridge between the two of us. As my dad could only come back from Assam after a period of eight months, Idea played a crucial role in bringing him home every evening when I used to get a chance to talk to him. Even as I write this article, it makes me wonder the famous tagline of the idea of "What an Idea Sirji!". Even today it never fails to amuse, as soon as I landed here in Mumbai one of the very first of thing that I did was to get a Voda phone idea sim. I am pretty sure this would not be the last time Aditya Birla group would have made things easier for me and would continue to do so for times to come.

PART B

TO BE OR NOT TO BE

Like any other CAT aspirant, the journey of my CAT preparation was a roller coaster ride. It all started when in the month of September 2016, I decided to do my MBA. With only two months of preparation, I was not expecting much. As the results came, I got 90.2 percentile. More than anything else, I was excited to start my preparation for my second attempt. It was the month of May 2017. During my preparation of CAT 2017, I had given it everything. From studying after a 10-hour shift and 3 hours of traveling to slogging during the weekend. After my exam though I realised that I would not be clearing it. When the results came, there were not any surprises, I was only able to score 91.27 percentile. With my dream of pursuing my MBA in operations looking a distant reality, I decided to quit my job at my previous employer and prepare for CAT. It was not an easy decision as it meant putting everything on the line in order to pursue my dream. During the subsequent months of preparation I gave tens of mocks, read more than 100 books in a year’s time and studied for hours together. I made sure that I consistently and diligently kept on working on the task at hand. Eventually, D-Day came and this time after my exam I had the gut feeling that I would crack it this time. With a 98.2 percentile in CAT, I was eventually able to crack NITIE, SJMSOM, NEW IIMS, etc. Finally, I joined NITIE to pursue my dream of doing my MBA.
