“Great businesses are never built on the quicksands of opportunism” – Kumar Mangalam Birla
When we talk about industry giants, it is oh so difficult to leave out the Aditya Birla Group that has spread its tentacles in numerous industries that directly or indirectly have a huge impact on billions of lives; not to mention the lives of the 1,20,000 employees that it has under it. A whopping $44.3 billion corporation, the Aditya Birla Group is also in the League of fortune 500. Today, over 50% of group revenues flow from overseas operations that span 34 countries.
Personally, Madura Garments Lifestyle Retail Co. Ltd., the erstwhile fashion division of the Aditya Birla Group is an indispensable part of my life. Brands like Louis Phillippe and Peter England are my go-to brands. They offer the best quality garments and at prices that don’t make the wallet cringe. Right from shirts to chinos, they have a wide variety of products to offer. The fit is such that it feels like they have been tailor-made for me. Stepping into professional life after doing an MBA is not possible without a couple of pairs of perfect business formals. Van Heusen always comes to the rescue when I need formal shirts or shoes or ties. The comfort level cannot be matched by any other brand when it comes to formals, or at least that is definitely true for me. It also deals in affordable fashion for regular wear clothes. So basically, it caters to every segment. It has a huge customer base including men, women and children. It has most certainly impacted my life in a big way.
Obstacles are an integral part of each one’s life. They help us grow and teach us lessons no one else can. Being a person who had anxiety issues, any and every stage of my life was a challenge for me. Interacting and networking with people is a very important part of personality development, and these were exactly the things I’d struggle with. Having an MBA dream, it wasn’t possible for me to continue living in my shell. It was important for me to accept that it is a real problem and then start working on it. I believe that building a support system was vital since it was the people around me who contributed to helping me jump over this major hurdle in my life. I started talking to more people about it and gathered all the information I could. I didn’t shy away from seeking help from a psychologist as well. I think teamwork really can push a person to achieve whatever he/she wants in life. It helped me as well. Today, as the head of the Creative vertical of the HRuday cell, I interact with more than 20-25 people on a daily basis, and I can confidently say that I do so without an ounce of anxiety or fear. I realized that being conscious of myself and overthinking about what other people think of me, will only lead to the manifestation of what I fear the most. Everyone has challenges, but I refuse to believe that they are permanent and that things cannot be turned around. Keeping this in mind, I have been able to overcome even other challenges in life, and I intend to continue doing so.
