Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life?

Founded by Seth Shiv Narayan Birla in 1857, the Aditya Birla Group is one of the best business houses in India and has a special importance in the lives of 125+ Cr Indians. It’s role in India’s economic history is tied inextricably with the nation’s quest for political freedom. The group has its headquarters in Worli, Mumbai. It is functional in 40 countries with more than 120,000 employees internationally. The group is active in sectors of viscose staple fibre, metals, cement (largest in India), viscose filament yarn, branded apparel, carbon black, chemicals, fertilisers, insulators, financial services, telecom, BPO and IT services.

A lot of activities in every Indian’s life are touched and fulfilled by the Aditya Birla Group.

Firstly after Independence steel, cement industry were the top most priorities for the government of India as we needed steel, non-ferrous metals and Cement for development of infrastructure and growth of our economy. ABG group launched into the cement industry in 1983 with Ultratech Cement which later become a pioneer in industry shaping the lives of millions of India’s by playing a role in building of roads, dams, bridges, houses etc. For eg. - 0.1 million mt of UltraTech Cement went into the construction of Mumbai’s Bandra-Worli Sealink which I would be using to communicate to my college SJMSOM, IIT Bombay.

Secondly ABG group’s Hindalco an aluminium and copper manufacturing company, helps us to modernize and stay connected to our dear and near ones as they protect our smartphones from damage as Hindalco Aluminium is used to make cover glass for our smartphones. Birla Copper is the largest supplier of Copper to Indian railways helping shape the transport industry of India and making our travel safer, easier and comfortable.

Thirdly Birla Carbon makes Carbon Black nanoparticles designed to improve treadwear and rolling resistance while maintaining traction, in addition to lowering the hysteresis of non-tread compounds. Applications include racing and ultra-high performance tires, passenger and truck treads, and non-tread tire compounds. It makes our tyres safer and ensure our safety and well being on the road.

Lastly Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited brand outlets like Allen Solly, Pantaloons caters to my changing demands of clothing by providing an exclusive range as per the latest fashion trends in the industry worldwide.

The Aditya Birla Group also indirectly impacts my life by taking measures to improve our society and country and making it a better place for all of us to live. Its CSR initiatives in Healthcare, Education, Livelihood, Infrastructure and its endeavour in making model villages is indeed making our society better. The Group is also acting responsible towards its actions which will impact the future generations and has thus rightly taken Sustainability into account.

How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life so far?

Challenges are a part and parcel of life. A life without challenges will be too boring. Challenges test your resilience towards difficult or unknown situations. They make you wiser and improve your capabilities. As the great saying goes and I quote “Our ability to handle life's challenges is a measure of our strength of character.” It’s our ability to accept and deal with challenges which define our character and who we are in real life.

The biggest challenge in my life was that after decent performances in CAT for the past three consecutive years I still wasn’t  able to convert my dream college and that was a major setback and thus I was highly demotivated and depressed. In 2017 I had converted SBI PO exam and had joined in State Bank of India as probationary officer in December 2017 and then began my journey of being an employee in a PSU firm. I had gives hopes of pursuing a MBA from my dream college after my 3 consecutive failures and as we know the State Bank of India being the biggest Public Sector Bank in India has a lot of work pressure along with scarcity of staff thus overburdening the staff’s currently in service to meet the customer requirements.

I was posted at a town named Beawar in Ajmer District and as Ajmer being my maternal hometown I used to stay at Ajmer and daily communicate between home and office using public transport which used to consume approximately 4 hours of my daily time.

But one day I realized that I should give a last try to fulfill my ambitions and thus again I aspired to complete my postgraduate degree in MBA from my dream college. The normal working hours for the public in banks is from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 PM with Sundays and 2nd, 4th Saturdays off but the reality is very different, I had to leave at 7:30 A.M. from Ajmer to reach branch at Beawar at 09:45 A.M. then work till 7:00 P.M. in the branch as everyone sees that a person during training should be utilized to maximum extent and thus I used to finish all the branches work and leave at 7:00 P.M. from the branch and board a roadways bus and reach home at 9:00 P.M. After this 12 hrs of hectic schedule coupled with no weekly offs as I had to go to the branch on Sundays, Saturdays and even Public holidays to finish off all the pending works which persons handling the desk before me had left uncomplete. I didn’t even had the energy and motivation to have dinner sometimes and thus I decided that I’ll give one more try to fulfil my aspirations and thus I again started working towards accomplishment of my goal. I slogged hard, after the hectic 12 hrs schedule at office I started practising the basics again, giving mock test at midnight, keeping updated with the current affairs to be helpful in interviews and in all that process sacrificing my sleep and health.

But the hardwork finally paid of as I fared well in CAT exam and then again worked harder to prepare for the interviews and this year I converted few of the top B-schools and finally converted my dream college SJMSOM, IIT Bombay.

So lastly I would like to say that challenges are an integral part and parcel of life, we should always try hard to overcome our fears and challenges and lastly one famous quote “If you win you need not explain but if you lose you should not be there to explain.”
