It all started with a family who began trading cotton in India rose a conglomerate which now employs more than 120,000 people worldwide – the Aditya Birla Group. The group has brought laurels to India by being one of the only few brands to be included in the prestigious Fortune 500 list. With its different verticals the Aditya Birla group of touching the lives of many Indians directly and indirectly. What is more admirable about Aditya Birla is that even by its exponential growth and combined revenues US$44.3 it has still managed to keep up to its philosophy of trusteeship, of plying back part of profits in terms of giving back to society. This philosophy has been carried forward by all the owners, be it G.D. Birla who contributed immensely to India’s freedom struggle along with Gandhi Ji or the current generation Rajshree Birla who even has won a Padma Bhushan for her contribution to the society.
The group is currently impacting over 7.5 million people through its various CSR activities in the healthcare, education, sustainability, infrastructure sectors. It is not just in the CSR activities, their philosophy of trusteeship is seen but also how well it treats its employees, it has even won the AON Best Employer award in 2018. The group even provides scholarships (ABGS) to students for higher studies to fulfill their dreams of studying in the premier institutes of the country.
It's not just the philosophy of giving back what makes the Aditya Birla group big for me but continuing this 158-year legacy and making it bigger every next year which sets it apart and makes this group big for me.
