The conglomerate, Aditya Birla Group touches lives of millions of individuals in India and around the world. So has it mine. With products spread across diverse sectors, ranging from textiles to telecom, cement to finance, it plays an important role in individual’s lives as well as economy as a whole.

One such example is introduction of work fashion for women in India. It has various brands under its cap with stores spread across the country. And it was one of these stores that I got my formals for my first interview from :). The feeling of putting on formals and the confidence that comes with it is inexpressible.

ABG has been big in my life since a long time, one such being the IDEA !

The campaigns it brought along with ‘What an IDEA Sirji!’ with focus on issues of social importance like Education and Use Mobile, Save Paper had long lasting effects on lives everywhere around. People did started shifting to digital platforms, reducing the paper usage. Also, somewhere the advertisement aimed at Education did further encourage me to fulfil my desire of teaching under privileged children. The wish was realized a few years back when I, along with a group of friends started an initiative called SAMVESH, taking sessions in government schools nearby, focusing on student’s overall development. That experience even helped me learn a lot. One such learning being to take initiative which helped me make an impact on the placement trends in my college.

Until last year, my college didn’t had any campus placement opportunity. This was the thing that concerned most of the students in the college, including me. I and 3 of my friends approached the faculties and started working on it from the pre-final year.

By the final year, our college had collaborated with colleges nearby for the pooled campus drive. Students from our college performed well and secured multiple job offers. But somewhere, I realized not all the students could perform well, the reason being lack of guidance. Hence I along with a friend started joint interview preparation sessions in the class and motivated other placement representatives to do the same in their departments.

Though the skills were improving, the exposure still lacked and so we decided to move onto the next milestone, company in campus.

Since we faced a major hurdle of no previous placement records, we were at a great disadvantage. Hence, we planned to target the startups and smaller firms for the first round of placements. I along with our TPO Chief and 3 faculties started working for it. We approached various companies with our excellent academic result backing us. We did fail at various points but did succeed at some as well. For the first round, we managed to call few companies and secured great number of offers.

Then for the second round, we approached established firms with reports of first round along with the academic results. The hard work pays off. And it did. We managed to place a great number of students from our batch along with internship offers for junior batches and a MoU with a few recruiters.

By the end of it, we successfully organized an industrial meet with speakers from various established companies, our current and potential recruiters, with state-wide recognition.

Leaving a lasting impression on my college – First Placement Head of my college !
