Challenges are part of everyone’s journey of life or achieving a goal. For me, the most memorable challenge was during the 10th std which is a very important and crucial part of any student’s life. At that time, we got an invite to the volleyball tournament. I had never played volleyball before in my life but because of my activeness in sports, our sports teacher asked me to learn it and be a part of the team.
I started training and improved on it day by day. But the match was very close to the board exams and I was a bright student in my class. My class in-charge was very furious about it and she didn’t want the match affecting my studies and my performance in the board exam. I was taken to the principal to make me understand that I shouldn’t be playing. But then I somehow convinced them that I’ll manage both. I promised them that I’ll be among the toppers of the school and in volleyball, I’ll give my best.
After that, I managed my time, worked day and night practiced volleyball for a few hours and compensated the time spent in that by studying early in the morning. I was monitored by the faculties in the pre-board assessments and viva exams and to their surprise, I performed well. My team went to the semi-finals at the state level after winning the district level. And in my board exams as well I was the school topper.
Aditya Birla Group- a brand with which I have my childhood memories acquainted with. Playing around the foot path where there was this cement dealers shop. He always used to have sacks of Ultratech cements from birla group. At that point of time it was just a stack of sacks upon which a 8 year old girl used to play, that’s all I knew about the firm. But as I grew and the company flourished, I became aware of the plenty of things and stuff that I use, are related to the people who provide the base of houses. Once sitting in the cab and gazing out of the window, tired and waiting for the traffic lights of a long signal to go green, I saw a little boy selling umbrellas at the signal. Now this is a very common scenario in a city, however what made it interesting was when the signal turns green the boy would wait on the pavement and read from a small book. I was astonished at his dedication and his obliviousness to the surroundings. I was inspired by his eagerness to learn and realised I have been given the “gift of time”. These 5 hours I spend sitting in the cab during commute could be put to better use. If that little boy can do it on the pavement, I can surely do it in the air-conditioned cab. I started reading up and solving little problems on my phone during this time, thus preparing for the entrance exams. I scored very well and secured admission to achieve my ambition.
