Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life?
Let’s admit it Aditya Birla Group (ABG) is an indispensable part of our lives. Not only it is one of the largest conglomerates in India, it has some tremendous feats to its name which has established India’s flag on the world map. Being the largest manufacturer of carbon black or the largest producer of Viscose staple fibre in the world is no mean feat! From using Idea (now Vodafone Idea Ltd) as my mobile carrier to watching the “What an Idea Sirji!” ad campaign, ABG has kept me connected to the world outside both literally as well as socially. It has never failed to surprise me with its innovative ad campaigns or with its unique approach to customer relationship management. Behind all the brands I prefer for my clothing (just like the most of us) - Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Peter England and Louise Philippe, there is one common thread. No points for guessing, Yeah you guessed it right! Who else but our very own ABG. Quality is synonymous with Ultratech cement – there is not even an iota of doubt about that. I can personally vouch for it given that I renovated my house in 2009 using Ultratech cement. When my father wanted to invest his hard earned retirement money in mutual funds, he decided to go with Aditya Birla Capital. Because when its about trust, a conglomerate which is 162 years old has well and truly earned it. These are just some of the products of ABG with which I have interfaced directly. The products in which carbon black or for that matter viscose fibre is used is almost unfathomable. This shows the void we would have in our lives if not for ABG and its products or services.
My Story
My life has been a roller-coaster ride to say the least . I got into a tier 2 engineering college, prepared for another attempt along with my first year, yet failed miserably at the second attempt. I finally made peace with my undergraduate college this time around. I had decided that I will not settle for anything but the best for my MBA . Yet the story was no different. In my first attempt, scored a 93 percentile in CAT which was of no avail being a GEM (big shout out to people in the same boat:D). The second time around, the sinking ship capsized in the rough waters of entrance exams. I started to question my ability to bell the CAT. Yet, somewhere deep down inside I knew I could make through with just a little more effort. So here I was at it again, slogging through a 10-7 job and a 4 hours commute everyday along with managing my exam preparations. Slowly and steadily, I was developing confidence in my abilities and scoring well in my mocks but then out of nowhere Typhoid stuck me …WHOOSH and I was bed ridden for an entire month, that too being September which is considered as a very important time frame for CAT prep. I could hardly sit on the chair for 10 mins leave alone giving 3 hours mock. Negativity started creeping in yet I knew not all was lost until you give up. From October, I decided to start my studies again albeit slowly. Fast forward to January 5th 2019 , I checked my CAT percentile and it was a decent 96.8 this time. On the brighter side I managed to crack all the major entrance exams apart from CAT and got calls from all the reputed b-schools. Interestingly, I converted MDI, Gurgaon and on the day of the interview, I was suffering from 103 degree fever. The quote-“Obstacles are put in your way to see if what you want is really worth fighting for” best sums up my story.
My story resonates with what ABG has been consistently doing since 1857(which is also incidentally the year of First War of Independence, no doubt the group is revolutionary:)) - Overcoming obstacles for the greater good.
