Life would be monotonous if it weren’t for challenges. Challenges test you, bend you, teach you and change you. I would like to elaborate on one such challenge that I faced in my life.
When I was in the second grade, I realized that I was not able to speak English as fluently as my teacher. It would be lying if I were to say that the realization did not make me feel dismayed. I took suggestions from my parents and teachers to improve upon my spoken as well as written skills. It was my mother who told me to start reading texts aloud to form proper pronunciation and tune.
From that day onwards, for years to come, I used to sit with my mother and read aloud all the text written in English be it literature, social studies or even science. I also started reading novels in an attempt to improve my vocabulary. I even would go on the stage and participate in debate or speech competitions. After three years, I was changing school and had to sit for an entrance test. The school had only 3 vacancies for the grade I was applying to and more than fifty students were applying for the same. Due to the rigorous practice that I had done, I not only got admission but also got praised for my performance in the English test.
It has been an incredible journey from not even being able to give an introduction to getting admission in one of the prestigious institutes for MBA in India. I may not have the best command in the language even at this point in life but I am proud to say that I am trying to be better.
English was a challenge for me but I can happily say that my constant hard-work and never give up attitude has helped me to overcome this obstacle.
