Aditya Birla Group is one of the largest Business Conglomerate in India. With its presence in industries like-Cement, Apparel, Telecom, Digital Banking, Mining, Textile-among others, ABG has served as a shining example of Quality and Service Excellence since 1857, when it was incorporated. Just to shed some light on ABG’s global sphere of influence, it currently employs over 1,20,000 people globally.

With such a large-scale presence, coupled with its operations in multitude of sectors, ABG has touched the life of almost every Indian in one or the other way.

I, myself, have used and continue to use wide variety of ABG products.

To name a few- I have been a subscriber of Idea (now Vodafone Idea) telecom services for quite some time now. With its excellent network coverage, I am always connected to my social circle. If we talk about fashion retail, ABG has got brands like Peter England, Allen Solly, Pantaloons, Van Heusen, Louis Philippe, under its umbrella. These brands serve Indian consumers at different price points, making it possible for Indian public- from lower middle class to upper class- to enjoy and experience latest fashion trends and premium clothing at an affordable rate.

ABG touches life of Indian public in so many ways- some more visible than others, that it would be remiss of me to just focus on Apparel and Telecom subsidiary of ABG. Another one of the ABG’s subsidiary- Ultra Tech Cement LTD. is the largest Cement and RMC manufacturer in the country. With an uncompromising attitude towards maintaining quality standards, Ultra Tech cement, over the years, has become the trusted partner of the leading construction houses of the country.

Birla Carbon, another subsidiary of ABG, manufactures and supplies Black Carbon additives which are used in the Vehicle tires. Grasim Industries, which started out as a textile company, is now the leading chemical player in India. Birla Copper, is responsible for fulfilling a significant portion of the copper requirement of Indian Railways.

The list of ways in which ABG influences the life of general Indian Public is endless. ABG has become an integral part of Indian Economy and continues to drive the Indian Consumerism. With its commitment towards maintaining high quality standards, it continues to deliver superior value to all its stakeholders, as compared to its competitors.

Part B

To make a real difference in any field or domain, to truly make an impact, one needs to have courage, dedication and persistence. Then even if faced with worst of adversities, these virtues can get you through anything.

Hailing from a typical conservative Indian middle-class family and growing up in the small city of Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), I have always wanted to make a name for myself. I have found myself to be super competitive and hard working. Combination of aforementioned virtues got me through my academics in high school quite well. However, after graduating from high school, I realized I lacked direction and this cost me dearly when I performed poorly in my Engineering entrance exam and had to settle for a Private Engineering College. I believed, I deserved much better. From thereon, I made it my aim to crack one of the most prestigious B-Schools of the country- IIMs. For me, IIMs were my ticket to a place which would allow me to grow and ultimately realize my dream. I worked hard during my last year of Engineering. I was trying to juggle too many things at once. I was gearing up for MBA entrance exam, while at the same time studying for my Engineering final year and preparing for Placement season in my Engineering College. The reason I was trying to juggle three things at once was because I couldn’t afford to put all my eggs in one basket.

At times, I thought that it would impossible for me to come out of this unscathed. Perhaps I was spreading myself too thin on too many tasks. However, my hard work and dedication prevailed and I passed with flying colors on all three fronts. After that, I took admission in IIM Sirmaur. I had finally achieved my aim of getting into an IIM.

This entire episode of my life, is very close to my heart as I keep on returning to it to draw inspiration whenever I feel I don’t have enough strength to surmount any obstacle.
