I was brought up in a village area in the lap of nature surrounded by forests and river. Being so close to nature; the only thing that I feared was the river. My village was constantly flooded during the rainy seasons and the scenes were horrific. Commute to the main city was very dangerous and this had an adverse impact on the life of the people residing in those areas. The roads were broken, and the way buses steered through these roads were nerve wrecking. It was like an accident was bound to happen.
These experiences created a fear of water in me. I used to get very frightened whenever bus moved through the bridges or through the water. So, I decided to learn swimming many a times, but I could never find the courage to do so. Initially, I tried to learn at my village in the river nearby but the fear of directly learning in a river was something I couldn’t do even with the help of people who were experts at that. So, the time flied by and I kept missing the opportunity to learn swimming and conquer my fear. I also went to a trainer to help me learn it but after 10 days I didn’t find success at it. I felt that I could never do it.
I made a friend who worked at the same company as me and was very good at swimming. One day he accidentally told me about how he feared swimming and how he learnt it. It was the moment that I thought if he could do it I could too. Seeing my interest, he offered me to join him at the swimming classes and that he would help me in learning it. I thought of giving it a final try. I started slowly from moving my legs correctly to moving my hands and finally learning swimming. It took some time to get proficient at it. But when I finally learnt it, I felt that having a good friend who understands the situation better helped me learn it.
