Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life “Our mission has always been to be the leaders in each of our businesses, which is one, two or three.” – Kumar Mangalam Birla That right there is a winner talking. This quote instantly caught my attention and I immediately wanted to find out more about this man and the organisation he handled. Aditya Birla Group is an intimidating organization and any aspiring manager will want to work for this $45 billion revenue making company. Operating in 35 countries and having more than 120,000 employees worldwide, this is definitely one of my dream organizations to work for. Aditya Birla Group has vested interests in BPO, IT, cement, branded apparel and various other sectors. It is literally everywhere and I realised it as soon as I started preparing for my MBA entrances. From Ultratech Cement to Louis Philippe, the Aditya Birla Group has its roots ingrained deep in the Indian market. Talking about personal experiences, I needed to buy a suit for my interviews and the first name that I heard from my father was Peter England. I had seen him buying and wearing Peter England suits all my life and I was more than happy to follow in his footsteps. We recently had our new house built and the contractor asked us not to consider any other cement brand but Ultratech Cement. This is the kind of brand name that all companies aspire to have. It would be an understatement to say that I would love to work in the marketing segment of any of the brands of this huge conglomerate. How I overcame challenges in my life to achieve my ambitions They say you can’t change a person unless he/she is ready to change by themselves; and I couldn’t agree more. I was inherently an introvert in my childhood but my father’s job made my life difficult being an introvert. He works for the Central Excise department and used to get transferred a lot – so often that I had changed six schools by the time I reached sixth grade. This forced me to come out of my shell and interact with new students, new teachers every year. Just when I thought I was settling in at my new school, we would have to move to a new city and I would have to start adjusting all over again. This was perhaps the best experience that enhanced my people skills right from a tender age and now, I may not be a big extrovert but I definitely don’t have any trouble approaching new people and adjusting to new situations in my life – I’m riding the ambivert horse all the way! In the March of 2014, my 12th standard board practical exams were starting and I suffered from acute appendicitis. The procedure was supposed to be pretty mundane and normal: a half an hour surgery and a week’s rest and I would be back to normal. But the doctor delayed my surgery by a day due to personal reasons and nobody thought much of it because I was apparently still at the initial stages of appendicitis, which wasn’t the case. During that one-day delay, the appendix burst and poison started to spread. By god’s grace the surgery took place successfully before any of the poison could reach my heart and all of the poison was removed quite swiftly. Although, this had made my situation much more complicated and now I had to be on bed rest for a whole month. I was travelling from the hospital to the school for my exams and back to the hospital again. I couldn’t study much because there was still pain in my abdomen and I couldn’t sit up straight for too long. Even after all this, with the support of my parents I managed to get 80+ percentage in my boards and that is the best academic achievement of my life. I have scored in 90's a lot of times in my school era but this 80 will always the most special one.   #NMIMSMumbai  #ABGLPWooMe
