The Aditya Birla Group is a global conglomerate with presence in over 20 countries. The group employees more than 1,00,000 personnel across various countries. The group has won awards and accolades for excellent performance in various sectors.
The Aditya Birla Group has impacted my life in various ways. The main bonding element used in the houses today is the ultra tech cement. It’s something which holds the house together and prevents it from falling apart during many adversities. The PVC solutions applied in our building is also one such product of the Aditya Birla Group. One of the biggest brand which we can all associate with is the “IDEA telecom”, something which introduced us to the concept of how an idea can change one’s life. Bringing people closer with calling and high speed internet facility was something the Aditya Birla Group successfully worked upon. It also gave an example of evolution in ever changing atmosphere when it joined hands with Vodafone to take the telecom war head on. Thus making it one of the surviving giant in the telecom industry in India where most of the industries were hit hard, with a subscriber base of more than 400 million.
Aditya Birla Group is also one of the biggest fashion retailer in India. With the famous brands like Ralph Lauren, Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Van Heusen, People, Pantaloons, Planet fashion and much more, it has catered to every segment of the Population. It is India's first billion-dollar pure-play fashion powerhouse. The Aditya Birla Fashion Retail brings together the learnings and businesses of two famous Indian fashion brands, Madura Fashion & Lifestyle and Pantaloons creating a synergistic core that will act as the nucleus of the future fashion businesses of the Aditya Birla Group.
The Aditya Birla Group has spread its hold on various other facets of industry. The group played a major role in the development of the beautiful Mumbai Worli Sea link, which links the two parts of Mumbai. Grasim Industries is the fourth largest insulator producing Industry which helps fulfil the electricity requirement of our country. The copper used in trains is also supplied by the Birla Industry. The Hindalco aluminum fulfils are requirement for the aluminum in various electronic devices.
It’s absolutely not easy to ignore how the Aditya Birla Group has influenced our lifestyle. The industry since its inception has always worked for the betterment of the society. This could also be seen from the various CSR activities undertaken by the group, be it polio vaccination camps, or the hospitals or the biogas plants, we are all privileged to get the services of the group.

Life is full of challenges. It’s never easy to overcome these challenges and achieve victory but it’s the resilience you show during the tough times is what shapes you up. Kumar Manglam Birla, the chairman of Aditya Birla Group faced many challenges when he took over the business at a young age of 28 years. Many were sceptical about his ability to run such a big business. He finally proved everybody wrong when it was ranked Number 4 in the global ‘Top Companies for Leaders’ survey by Aon Hewitt, Fortune Magazine, and RBL, and ranked Number 1 in Asia Pacific for 2011.
There is a lot that can be learned from the challenges of ABG. There were many such challenges that I faced in my life. Some were due to the life choices I made and some were due to sheer misfortune. Despite that it was my determination and resilience that kept me going. I was scared when I registered my name for the first time in a regional swimming competition. It was an unknown path of which scared to tread upon, but with the support from my family and friends I finally made it through. The other challenge was the time when I faced criticism for not securing a good rank in engineering. Conditions like these puts you into self doubt which can be really harmful but it’s the support from the family that keeps you going. The other situation when I faced flak from people was when I decided to take choose MBA after my Engineering. People were a lot sceptical about the decisions I was making in my life. Thereafter, I faced my biggest challenge and the biggest learning in life when I failed to clear any of my interviews. It made me doubt my own choices.
It took some time but it finally dawned upon me that there is no point to crumble upon things that we can’t govern. Instead one should focus upon things one can work upon. With the hard work and determination I was then able to clear all my interviews and finally got a chance to study in IIFT, one of the premier B school of our country.
As said earlier it’s the determination, support, self belief and the concept of constant evolving and developing that shapes one for any challenges that one might face in their life.
