Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life?

The heritage set up by the late Mr. Ghanshyam Das Birla, the legacy continued by Mr. Aditya Birla and the torch being borne by Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, the ABG Group is indeed one of those organizations that will always be omnipresent in its contributions to the Indian society. The names of these visionary people who have given the group direction, given the country a reason to be proud of, and contributed massively to the development of the industrial and commercial sector in India, will always be remembered. While I was young, awe and grandeur were always synonymous with the words “Tata-Birla”. Since childhood, I always had a piqued interest in the who the Birlas were and why did they command such awe in the minds of the public.

My first ever connect with the Aditya Birla Group came in 2013 when I had secured an interview in the prestigious St Xavier’s College, CST for a graduate BMS course. I had gone to the apparel store Louis Phillippe, to buy a shirt for my interview. It was a priceless moment for me when I got selected, and the shirt is a good luck charm that I wear for interviews. It was then when I started educating myself more about the group and its operations. I have always envisioned to work in this company in the future.

Unknowingly, the different apparel stores I walk into when shopping, the fact that my food is always packed by the aluminum foil Freshwrapp, and the use of Ultra Tech Cement and Putty for the renovation work home has made ABG omnipresent in every walk of my life. It is a brand that has touched the common man of India and millions of world citizens over the course of its establishment.

What challenges have you faced in the process of achieving your ambitions and how did you overcome it?

“Life is a song - sing it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a challenge - meet it. Life is a dream - realize it. Life is a sacrifice - offer it. Life is love - enjoy it.” – Sai Baba

Life is incomplete without challenges. Challenges are what makes us realize life is worth living every moment. I would say that my biggest challenge was to overcome my own fears of inadequacy and insecurity. I never had the self-confidence to talk to people, and never did realize my own dreams. When companies started coming to campus and recruiting students for consulting profiles, I was overcome with pessimism and fear of not getting placed, such that I stopped applying. A good friend and mentor gave me a much-needed wakeup call and made me mend my ways of thinking. Guided by empathy and facilitated by meditation, I did find my voice again. Practicing the basics of Vipassana meditation, coupled with mindfulness, helped me navigate my way through different competitions help by the company. It was a dream come true when I got selected by Aon Consulting Pvt Ltd., to join them as a talent management consultant and kick start a career in a field that has to lead me to my dream college TISS where I am doing my MA in Organisation Development, Change, and Leadership. Looking back, I feel that the motivation to lead comes from the within, and the sparks of curiosity that flame into ambition need to be nurtured and curated. Challenges and obstacles are just an alternate way of thinking, flip them upside down and they become success and victory.
