When I was in my final year of civil engineering at VIT Chennai, I had written CAT without any preparation and to my surprize, I scored 91.29 percentile. As most college applications were closed by then, I could only apply to IMT Ghaziabad and I converted it. Due to this, I didn’t participate in any of the placement activities taking place in the final semester. I had job offers from only 3 IT companies that had visited campus in the pre-final semester. After putting a lot of thought to it, I decided I can do better in CAT if I prepared for it. So I ended up giving up my seat at IMT and I went back to my native to prepare for CAT. After toiling day and night, I scored a meagre 86 percentile that year. In the process, I had also rejected Cognizant’s offer twice. So in January of 2018, I had no job offer and a bad CAT percentile.
Though this phase was very disheartening, I tried to get a job related to civil engineering, but I could not find one that was ready to hire a fresher without a good gate score. Then in March of the same year, Cognizant sent a third joining offer and I accepted. After my training, I started preparing for CAT again. Though I clocked in 11 hours regularly, I put in some effort every day towards my CAT preparation. The hard work finally paid off when I scored 97.34 percentile in CAT 2019.
