How is Aditya Birla Group Big in My Life?

Aditya Birla Group is a Fortune 500 brand, which is a premium global conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai, India. Incepted in 1857 by Seth Shiv Narayan Birla, Aditya Birla group happens to be a household name for most Indians today.

A 162-year-old enterprise with a stronghold over 35 countries and a workforce of around 120,000 employees, Aditya Birla Group operates actively in 14 industrial sectors and is a 44.3 Billion USD corporation. With a plethora of brands under its name including Pantaloons, Van Heusen, Peter England, Hindalco, Vodafone-Idea, Ultratech, Birla carbon, Grasim and many more, Aditya Birla Group has had touched the lives of almost every Indian at some point in time or the other.

From Ultratech Cement used in building the iconic Bandra Worli Sea Link, to Hindalco Aluminium on our mobile screen covers to the Freshwrapp foils protecting our lunch to the Allen Solly shirts and the Van Heusen suits on our body to the fresh groceries from our nearest ‘more’ hypermarket outlet to the Birla Carbon protecting our tyres to the Vodafone-Idea cellular connection diminishing distances miraculously, Aditya Birla group forms a part of everyone’s life which at times may not be visible but is definitely indispensable.

And what can be better than an organization with such a resonant brand value and relatability with a major chunk of the population? Well, it is the good work that the group does for the society as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility Program (CSR).

Reaching out to over a 7.5 Million people across 5000 villages, having treated over a million patients with the help of 5000 medical camps and 20 hospitals, having immunised 70 million children against polio, operating 56 schools for 46,500 children and giving access to as many as 450,000 students to solar lamps and 63,000 midday meals to children in 268 schools and having skilled 95,000 people, Aditya Birla Group is surely not an organization just about the numbers but about the lives it has touched for both its consumers and beneficiaries of the CSR programs alike.

But the good work doesn’t just stop at Social Responsibilities. Aditya Birla Group realizes a greater responsibility towards the environment, the ensuing future and embodies the concept of Sustainable Development in its core values. Aditya Birla Group has defined a Sustainable Business Framework which focuses on continuing operations within the tightening constraints of a future sustainable world. The approach considers majorly 3 paradigms. Starting with Responsible Stewardship, which involves following International standards, Strategic Stakeholder Engagement which aims to anticipate the effect of external factors on business disruptions, and finally Future Proofing which is all about adapting to external factors in business strategic plans.

With a very comprehensive approach towards all sectors of industries it covers and all the lives it touches without missing focus on a sustainable development model for the future, Aditya Birla Group has made sure its massive experience and brilliant strategies help it become big in not just my life, but in almost every Indian’s life.

How I overcame challenges to achieve ambitions?

Almost every success story begins with a seemingly overwhelming challenge coming naturally at times, but looking beyond the same and fighting the same is what creates the difference.

I found myself in a similar situation when in school. An inherently introvert, although talkative in close circles, I could never muster the courage to take to the podium or partake in a debate, or even volunteer to speak in front of the class. There was a perceived stage fright in me and hence I would not push myself for exhibiting something even though I was really good at it. This stayed with me for a long time including my first year in college. And as usual, this took a deep toll on my self-confidence levels.

Then came a day in the second year, when I decided to join the newly incepted Entrepreneurship Cell of our college and eventually participated in a Business Plan pitching competition. That event opened me up to a certain level where I got a grasp over my fear. I started realizing that I could take the stage and come out without embarrassing myself.

Hence, an interesting turn of events ensued thereafter. I started getting more comfortable and familiar with public interactions, started hosting more events for E-Cell, took to the podium more frequently, was ready to participate in formal discussions, played the emcee in various events, played a role in speaking to my fellow students and motivating them for various causes and much more. I started creating an identity for myself among my batchmates, juniors, seniors and faculty members from being a nobody not long ago. I made sure my personality resonated with trustworthiness and that led ways to people electing me for the position of a member in the college Placement core committee. And in more such instances I kept surpassing my own expectations and it never stopped thereon.

Although this might seem to be a trivial achievement to many, I believe this transformation of character has been by far the greatest war I’ve fought and defeated the part of my own self which was inhibiting me from realizing my full potential.

Today, my confidence is fuelled by the introversion I averted. This attitude keeps me grounded with my head in the sky. And I’m proud to say that I’m constantly treading the path towards excellence, from seeking comfort to seeking goals, from being in a cocoon to break free and from being shy and introverted to being confident and poised for bigger challenges and better things in life.
