PART A

As a day begins in one's life, we often don't pay attention to the fact that how closely an organization is surrounding us. From the moment we open our eyes till the time we go back to bed, we use numerous products and services not giving enough importance to the value they create in our life. One such organization is Aditya Birla Group, which has been there in one form or another and have added value to my life.

When we talk about shopping, we always find an option in the form of Pantaloons. Apart from the quality products and services, they make their customer feel valuable unlike others in the market. Discounts and offers may only get you crowd once but the level of trust which Pantaloons has created enables customer to come back again and again. Moving from Apparels to Grocery, 'More' by Aditya Birla Group is definitely a place where housewives, students, bachelors move towards. The wide variety of product ranges caters to almost all the food items need of an individual.

Despite the disruption caused by one of the new telecom companies, Idea has maintained its unique position in the telecom industry. The strategic alliance with Vodafone, Vodafone-Idea has created a stronger customer base which is mainly because of the strong network presence throughout the country which eventually is the ultimate need of any mobile phone user. Without network, even free internet data will be useless.

Not limiting themselves to only these businesses, ABG has impacted our lives in various forms. Be it providing metallic substances or cement to build homes and businesses, they have made sure that at the end, it is value that is delivered to the customer and not a mere product or service.

Part B

Co-founding a startup against my parents' will was a challenge that I faced at a very important point in my life. After completing my engineering, I was expected to take up a corporate job which I didn't. That very step of mine brought about a change in my equation with my parents who otherwise have always been supportive of my dreams. They were not sure if it was something good for me and wanted me to go for a safer bet. I could have easily give  up on my dream and followed the career in corporate world but I decided to take it as a challenge and work around it.

Initially, I took steps without their permission but I was sure that if I can show them that I will be putting my heart in the venture and show them the results, they might want to consider their opinion. As business progressed, we started doing well and that restored their faith in my decision.

With the implementation of demonetization and GST coupled with our inability to raise sufficient funding, there came a difficult time when even the survival of the startup was also in doubt. With that I was questioned again about my decision but what they didn't know was that I had a plan B in place.

As someone who always thinks of alternatives and believes in forward thinking, I have always thought that I would pursue an MBA from one of the premier institutes of the country. Hence, when my startup was not working well and was at the verge of its closure, I started preparing for management entrance exams. My parents had little idea about it until the time I was accepted at  NMIMS and I told them about my plans.

At one side was my dream and on the other side was my parents. Giving up on either of them was never an option. My determination, dedication and focused attitude helped me in overcoming one of the most difficult challenges I have ever faced in my life till that time.
