It was a chilly November. I had a very hectic year as I was handling more projects than my peers. One fine day, my manager called me and assigned me a different project on Air Conditioning and Ventilation system in a leading steel plant.
I was fully unaware of the situation of the project and I also didn’t have any relevant experience in such areas. I was in a great dilemma to whom shall I ask for guidance. But I took this opportunity to proof my capability and show my worth to my team members.
I reached out to my team members who have relevant experience in such project and asked them for their guidance. Being so helpful, they guided me of what needs to be done, and showed me all the calculations and books for reference. But the challenges were far from being over. This project was volume-wise enormous with very stringent deadlines, complexion and more interaction with different stakeholders. The mechanical way of doing the design was helping me no where and more work was piling over me for my approvals. To make the design process simpler, I made some excel templates to automate the calculations and make our work fast. Now those templates are used by my team members for different projects. I also received positive feedback from my manager for my contribution to the team.
Those two months where one of my toughest time. This experience has taught me a lot of things and I came out of it as a better person. I believe being honest to yourself and always be ready to take challenging jobs will help an individual to rise in his career. I hope to remember this important lesson of my life and move forward as another challenge is waiting for me – MBA.
Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life
A pertinent question to all our ruling parties is how they would generate more jobs for our youths. May be most of our parties don’t have a clear solution to this question, but we have few Indian MNCs, which are doing may be more work than our political parties. Aditya Birla Group, which is led by Kumar Mangalam Birla, is one of such organization which operate in more than 35 countries and employees more than 120,000 employees worldwide.
Aditya Birla Group, a $44.3 billion corporation is active in 14 industrial sectors and has achieved global and national leadership in several businesses. One of the most important things about this brand is that you can find them in every part of your life. Starting from our first suit, or a new cell connection or place to buy new cloths or even our house in which we make most of our memory, ABG touches everything.
Being from a core background, among all the sectors in which Aditya Birla Group is, I admire UltraTech Cement the most. UltraTech Cement has a consolidated capacity of 102.75 MTPA of grey cement and it is the largest manufacturer of cement in India. What I really appreciate about UltraTech Cement is its continual efforts to play a key role in finding effective and responsible ways to preserve the environment. It is fully aligned to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and they have been certified as ‘water positive’ by global auditing agencies. They meet most of its power consumption by captive power plants and waste heat recovery systems and they are expected to double its power generation capacity by 2020. Also, it meets half of the water requirement through rainwater harvesting and recycling. This should be the kind of sustainability that all companies should aspire for. It would be an understatement to say that I would love to work in the operation segment of any of brands of this huge conglomerate.
