Accepting failures and moving on in life is something that is never taught in any school while growing up. For IIM Shillong student Gaurav Lakhani, dealing with one such failure was very difficult. With higher aspirations and a charted out future plan for himself, he got a jolt when he faced rejection. It broke his confidence and put him in the dark lanes of depression. In today's episode of the Real Steel series, powered by Tata Steel, we have Gaurav Lakhani taking us through his journey to IIM Shillong.

Hailing from Rajasthan Gaurav completed his Bachelor’s degree in Material Science from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He wanted to go abroad for his further studies and pursue research. But, life had other plans for him. The downward spiral took place in his life when he started seeing all his other friends succeeding and helming better positions than him. With depression seeping in, he decided to settle for a Masters's course at IISc.
It was during this time that he realized that he needs to address his concerns and that is when he started consulting a psychiatrist. Things got better as time went on and he started accepting life as it comes. Collecting himself, he decided to take his life to a different path and prepared for CAT.
With just about a month to prepare, he cracked CAT in the very first year and got through to IIM Shillong. In Gaurav’s words, one thing that he understood in life so far was, ‘success is not reaching somewhere, it is the journey’.
Tata Steel salutes the might of real steel in Gaurav and is always in the lookout for people with resilience and fighting spirit to make a comeback when things are not in their favor.
